Job description

Job Title: Principal Engineer- Static/ Rotating Packages

Department: Mechanical

Responsibilities

• Lead the overall execution of engineering for the assigned project and serve as package engineer until completion.
• Design technical equipment (static and rotating) and package equipment, ensuring cost‑efficiency and conformity to customer specifications within the agreed schedule.
• Address operational and maintenance issues in the design.
• Ensure engineering documentation is available for selection and sizing of equipment.
• Check engineering documentation of equipment and perform technical bid evaluation.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Take ownership of design decisions.
• Handle technical communication with external engineering parties and clients.
• Identify concerns early and take corrective action.
• Practice methods in accordance with the Quality Management System.
• Maintain an adequate knowledge level in the field of expertise.
• Develop knowledge and skills to address current and future project and market demands.
• Guide engineers and designers during project execution as needed.

  • Identify specification impact on budget and design; guide the team to prepare basic layouts for small mechanical packages (e.g., desalter packages and chemical injection packages).

  • Prepare engineering packages using commercially available materials and components based on P&ID and client, company, or national/international specifications.
  • Guide the team to prepare detailed layouts for small mechanical packages (e.g., dressed vessels, chemical injection packages).
  • Prepare material/purchase requisitions (RFQ, TDS).
  • Prepare engineering deliverables for client submission.
  • Contribute to the selection of equipment types based on practical merits and de‑merits.
  • Review and assess both internal and external engineering packages of equipment (rotating and static) and components in coordination with other disciplines (interdisciplinary check).
  • Incorporate document changes in accordance with QMS and inform all relevant parties.
  • Check documents related to equipment and components produced by draftsmen/designer.
  • Participate in PIM and review meetings with vendors for major equipment and packages.
  • Participate in project close‑out meetings.
• Construction and delivery
  • Participate in work‑start meetings when initiated by the Project Engineer.
  • Provide technical support for construction, assembly, and testing activities.

  • Participate in R&D projects.

• Entitled to stop work in case of an acute serious safety threat; notify the manager and relevant others.

Education / Experience

BE/BTech with 12 to 14 years of relevant experience or ME/MTech in Mechanical with 10+ years of relevant work experience.

Essential Job Functions

• Understanding of P&ID’s.
• Thorough understanding of:
  • Codes and standards for static equipment (ASME VIII, ASME IX, EN13445, PED, TEMA, etc.)
  • Working principles and codes & standards for rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, gearboxes (API RP 682, API 610, API 618, API 619, API 672, API 674, API 675, API 676, EN809, Machinery Directive, etc.)
• Basic understanding of:
  • Strength calculations required for pressure vessels and atmospheric tanks; testing and inspection (hydrotest, MT, PT, RT, UT, ET, VT).
  • Selection & sizing calculations for rotating equipment.
• Basic understanding of hydrocarbon processes.
• Basic understanding of fabrication / manufacturing processes.
• Design experience in equipment (static or rotating).
