Job summary

Alcon is seeking a Principal Software Engineer 1 to join the Digital Health Data and Admin Services team in Bengaluru. You will design, develop, and deliver full-stack software for Digital Health products, with a focus on AWS cloud architectures and scalable healthcare applications.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement robust solutions, ensure regulatory compliance (HL7, FHIR, HIPAA), and drive best practices in DevOps, testing, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in full-stack software development, preferably in healthcare digital apps.
• Proficiency with React or Angular frontend frameworks.
• Strong backend skills in Node.js, Python, and Java.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases.
• Advanced knowledge of AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, DynamoDB).
• Experience with DevOps, microservices, and containers.
• Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deploy full-stack web applications with performance, scalability, and security in mind.
• Develop responsive UI with modern front-end frameworks (React/Angular).
• Build server-side logic, databases, and APIs across stacks.
• Design scalable, secure AWS cloud solutions (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, DynamoDB).
• Automate deployments and monitor health via AWS DevOps tools and API gateway.
• Collaborate with PMs, UX/UI, and fellow engineers to gather requirements and specs.
• Implement unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and fix issues promptly.
• Document architecture, APIs, and user guides for developed software.

Summary of Position: As a Principal Software Engineer 1, you will be part of Digital Health Data and Admin Services Engineering team to design, develop & deliver software for Digital Health products. We are seeking an experienced Engineer with a strong background in full-stack development and AWS cloud services to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both front-end and back-end technologies, as well as experience working in the healthcare industry. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement robust and scalable healthcare applications that comply with industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deploy full-stack web applications, ensuring high performance, scalability, and security.
• Develop intuitive, user-friendly interfaces using modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular), with a strong focus on responsive design and accessibility.
• Develop and maintain server-side logic, database architectures, and APIs using technologies such as Node.js, Java Spring boot, Python, ensuring seamless integration with front-end components.
• Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions using AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and DynamoDB. Optimize the use of AWS resources to ensure high availability and performance.
• Utilize AWS DevOps tools to automate deployment, monitor application health, and implementation of micro services / containers, authorization & authentication modules via API gateway.
• Work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and other engineering teams to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Implement comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, to ensure software reliability and performance. Identify and resolve bugs and performance issues in a timely manner.
• Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies, particularly those related to AWS and cloud computing, and proactively suggest improvements to processes, tools, and software architecture.
• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for all developed software, including system architecture, API documentation, and user guides.

Key Requirements / Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in full-stack software development, with a focus on healthcare-related Digital applications preferred.
• Proficiency in front-end frameworks such as React, Angular.
• Strong experience with back-end technologies like Node.js, Python, Java.
• Expertise in database management systems such as PostgreSQL.
• Advanced knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and DynamoDB.
• Experience with DevOps tools, micro services / containers.
• Familiarity with healthcare standards and regulations, including HL7, FHIR, and HIPAA compliance.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile development environment.
• Leadership experience with mentoring and guiding junior engineers is a plus.
