Principal Engineer – Validation
Position Summary:The Principal Engineer – Validation will define test plans, develop test scripts, and validate SSD firmware for Micron NAND‑based systems, ensuring product quality and performance across functional, system, and customer‑centric test areas.
Responsibilities
- Define test plans, test cases, and develop test scripts to validate SSD firmware for Micron NAND‑based systems and solutions.
- Conduct functional, system‑level, and customer‑centric tests spanning NVMe/PCIe specifications and NVMe Cloud SSD specifications.
- Partner with hyperscale/Datacenter customers throughout the product life cycle to improve cycle time and customer quality of Micron’s SSD products.
- Communicate status, issues, concerns, and strategies of programs and projects, including development of appropriate indicators.
- Manage ambiguity and operate with little direction to meet defined goals.
- Work with and through others to achieve goals and task completion.
- Comprehend and articulate validation strategies, plans and status.
- Work with auto code generators, AI agents, and develop skills for AI agent performance validation tasks.
- Design and execute test plans involving I/O workloads, NVMe protocols, and media management aspects using tools such as Medusa, SanBlaze, and Oakgate.
- Validate SSD firmware using UNH and PCIe‑CV test suites.
- Integrate tests into an automated test environment and collaborate with test execution teams to drive validation plans/strategy.
- Review, track, and document test results and sightings, driving issues to closure by interfacing with product development teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- 8–14 years of experience in embedded firmware or 4+ years in SSD product validation.
- Hands‑on debugging of NVMe/SAS protocol issues using Lecroy/JDSU analyzers.
- Prepared test plans involving I/O workloads, NVMe protocols, and media management aspects using tools such as Medusa, SanBlaze, and Oakgate.
- Prior experience validating SSD firmware using UNH and PCIe‑CV test suites.
- Expertise in Windows and Linux operating system debugging and coding in Python.
- Effective oral and written communication with strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to work well with others and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Expert planning, tracking, and scheduling skills; able to see the big picture, stay organized, focus on results, and manage multiple projects with excellent time management.
- Extensive knowledge of system storage and its relationship to platform ingredients (CPU, memory, PCIe, drivers, OS, firmware, etc.).
- 2+ years of experience working with auto code generators and AI agents for validation tasks.
