Job summary

Upscale, Inc. is building high-performance AI infrastructure in Bengaluru and seeks a gNMI Engineer with deep SONiC and telemetry expertise. You will design and maintain gNMI-based management for scalable switches and integrate OpenConfig/YANG models.

You will collaborate with SONiC developers and cloud infra teams, building automation in Python and Go while troubleshooting protocol-level issues across gRPC, gNMI, and data-centre networks.

Qualifications

• Engineering background with 15+ years of software development experience.
• Strong experience with SONiC, gNMI, gRPC, OpenConfig, Yang Data Models.
• Hands-on experience in Python and Go.
• Solid understanding of Linux commands and container tech (Docker).
• Experience with NETCONF, gNOI, OpenTelemetry and data-centre networking.
• Deep networking knowledge: TCP/IP, BGP, EVPN-VXLAN.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement gNMI-based configuration and telemetry solutions for SONiC switches.
• Integrate SONiC management interfaces with OpenConfig and YANG models.
• Enhance manageability using gNMI Subscribe, Get, Set and Capabilities; streaming telemetry.

• Troubleshoot and optimize gRPC/gNMI communication for large-scale deployments.
• Contribute to SONiC management framework enhancements.
• Develop automation frameworks using Python and Go.

We are seeking a highly skilled gNMI Engineer with strong expertise in SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud), network programmability, telemetry, and automation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining gNMI-based management and telemetry solutions for SONiC-enabled network devices. The role requires deep understanding of YANG models, OpenConfig, gRPC/gNMI protocols, and modern datacentre networking technologies.

The engineer will work closely with SONiC developers, network architects, automation teams, and cloud infrastructure teams to build scalable network management and observability solutions.

What will you do ?

• Design and implement gNMI-based configuration and telemetry solutions for SONiC switches. Maintain gNMI clients, servers, and related services.
• Integrate SONiC management interfaces with OpenConfig and vendor-specific YANG models.
• Enhance manageability solutions using gNMI Subscribe, Get, Set, and Capabilities operations. Implement streaming telemetry solutions using: gNMI and OpenConfig
• Support integration of SONiC with data center orchestration platforms.
• Troubleshoot and optimize gRPC/gNMI communication for large-scale deployments.
• Contribute to SONiC management framework enhancements.
• Develop automation frameworks using: Python, Go (Golang)
• Debug protocol-level issues involving: gRPC, gNMI, OpenConfig, YANG, perform packet captures and protocol analysis.
• Resolve scalability and performance issues in telemetry systems. Conduct root cause analysis and provide long-term solutions.
• Contribute to SONiC Community.

• Engineering background with 15+ years of software development experience
• Strong experience with: SONiC, gNMI, gRPC, OpenConfig, Yang Data Models
• Hands-on experience in: Python, Go (Golang)
• Solid understanding of: Linux system commands, Container technologies (Docker)
• Experience with: NETCONF, gNOI, OpenTelemetry
• Deep understanding of Networking, Switching platforms, TCP/IP, BGP, EVPN-VXLAN, Data Centre Networking
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work in Agile development environments.
• Self-driven with ownership mindset. Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Good to have

• Contributions to SONiC open-source community.
• Familiarity with SONiC Management Framework.
• Experience with hyperscale datacenter environments.
