Job summary

Insight is seeking a Principal Engineer-Network to act as a senior escalation resource, mentoring teams and driving network incident resolution. You will lead problem management and maintain operator knowledge through articles and procedures.

The role demands 7+ years in enterprise networking, strong vendor experience, and certification pursuit (CCNP or equivalent). Hybrid work with global IT support and on-call rotation are part of the job.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of enterprise networking support experience.
• Experience with multiple vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Aruba, F5).
• Strong knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, VPN, SD-WAN, MPLS.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior escalation resource to junior teammates.
• Mentor and coach engineering resources and develop service catalog.
• Create and update knowledge articles to aid incident resolution and fulfillment.
• Lead problem management and root-cause analysis.
• Participate in on-call rotation and adhere to SLAs.

Job Summary

Engineers will utilize knowledge, skill and process to resolve client issues, while meeting all SLA targets, participating in continuous improvement processes, and utilizing Insight-provided tools and systems. Engineers are expected to participate in ITIL processes Incident, Problem, Request, Change, and will author and update knowledge articles and repeatable procedures to ensure junior teammates can independently resolve 80% of incident, without requiring escalation.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior technical escalation resource to junior teammates.
• Follows and reviews processes and procedures. Identify and correct gaps, recommend corrections. Fulfill technical engineering role as client and business needs demand.
• Mentor and coach engineering and technical level resources. Helps to develop service catalog. Conducts and presents knowledge transfer on regular cadence.
• Provides technical resolution or request fulfillment of assigned tickets.
• Drives problem management to reduce incident volumes due to recurrent issues.
• Creates and updates knowledge articles to aid in incident resolution, and request fulfillment efforts.
• Makes recommendations for client-specific technology improvements, and reports on lifecycle and system health of devices in a client environment.
• Lead problem identification and management efforts including root cause analysis, known error records, etc, and is a member of an on-call rotation.
• Adheres to service-wide SLAs and is subject to an on-call rotation.

Key Technical Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, focusing on IT, Network Engineering, or other related studies.
• Seven or more years of demonstrated experience providing technical support for common enterprise networking vendors to include, but not limited to: Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fprtinet, Aruba, F5. Supporting technologies including, but not limited to: routing, switching, firewalls, wireless access, VPN, SDWan, and MPLS.
• SME-level understanding and capability within Cisco IOS and CLI, Aruba Central, FortiManager, Cisco Meraki, Cisco Umbrella, Cisco ISE, Palo Alto Prisma, Cisco Catalyst Center Manager, and similar enterprise vendor toolsets.
• Maintain one or more professional level certifications (CCNP or equivalent), working to obtain an expert-level certification.
