Weekday is seeking a technically strong Principal Engineer specializing in DevOps and Database Administration to lead infra development, deployment automation, and database operations in Mumbai. The role demands deep cloud expertise, Linux/Unix administration, and experience with AWS, GCP, and Azure to ensure high availability across development, staging, and production environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
8–10 years of experience designing and maintaining high-volume, scalable microservices on cloud infrastructure.
Strong Linux/Unix administration and scripting (Python/Shell).
Extensive experience with AWS services (EC2, ELB, S3, Auto Scaling, VPC, Lambda).
Knowledge of GCP and Microsoft Azure.
Hands-on with deployment automation and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Maven, Puppet, Chef, GitLab).
Experience with monitoring tools (Zabbix, CloudWatch, Nagios).
Knowledge of JVM, Tomcat, Nginx, Kafka, microservices, and caching.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure across web, mobile, and big data apps.
Manage and optimize SQL/NoSQL databases (MongoDB) and related web servers and caching systems.
Automate deployment, configuration, and management of virtualized infrastructure and stack.
Design backup and disaster recovery strategies with minimal RTO/RPO.
Oversee cloud operations across AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud.
Identify performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges; drive improvements.
Design, implement, and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting for infrastructure health.
Lead DevOps toolchain improvements to automate repetitive tasks and improve efficiency.
Build highly available infrastructure with automated failover and minimal manual intervention.
Troubleshoot complex infra, DB, and deployment issues across environments.

We are looking for a technically strong and passionate Principal Engineer specialising in DevOps and Database Administration to lead infrastructure development, deployment automation, and database operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, high-performing, and scalable cloud infrastructure.

This role requires strong expertise in cloud platforms, Linux/Unix administration, database performance optimization, and automation. You will be responsible for selecting and deploying appropriate tools and technologies, streamlining development and operational processes, and ensuring high availability across development, staging, and production environments.

The successful candidate will take ownership of infrastructure reliability, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and drive continuous improvements across the platform.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure Design: Design, implement, and maintain scalable infrastructure for deploying and operating web, mobile, and big data applications across cloud environments.
Database Administration and Optimization: Manage, scale, and optimize SQL and NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB, along with web servers, application frameworks, caching systems, and distributed messaging platforms.
Infrastructure Automation: Automate deployment, configuration, and management of virtualized infrastructure and the complete software stack.
Backup and Disaster Recovery: Design and maintain reliable backup and restoration strategies, ensuring minimal Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO).
Cloud Operations: Manage Linux servers and SaaS infrastructure across AWS, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud.
Performance Engineering: Establish processes to identify performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and infrastructure limitations.
Monitoring and Alerting: Design, implement, and maintain robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure infrastructure health and operational visibility.
DevOps Process Improvement: Identify and implement tools and technologies to automate repetitive operational tasks and improve development efficiency.
High Availability: Build and maintain highly available infrastructure with automated failover capabilities and minimal manual intervention.
Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure, database, and deployment issues across development, staging, and production environments.
Operational Excellence: Establish and maintain best practices for enterprise applications and always-available services.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
8-10 years of experience designing and maintaining high-volume, scalable microservices architectures on cloud infrastructure.
Strong expertise in Linux/Unix administration and Python or Shell scripting.
Extensive experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS services such as EC2, ELB, S3, Auto Scaling, VPC, and Lambda.
Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure.
Hands-on experience with deployment automation and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Maven, Puppet, Chef, and GitLab.
Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, Amazon CloudWatch, and Nagios.
Knowledge of Java Virtual Machines (JVM), Apache Tomcat, Nginx, Apache Kafka, microservices architecture, and caching mechanisms.
Experience in database query analysis, performance tuning, and database redesign.
Background in enterprise application development, maintenance, and production operations.
Strong understanding of IT operations and best practices for highly available, always-on services.
Excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills.
