Job summary

GE Vernova in Chennai seeks an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to design LV/MV drive systems and control cabinets for industrial applications. The role emphasizes robust hardware design, loss budgeting, protection circuitry, and rigorous documentation.

You will size components, validate through modeling and tests, and collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability. CAD/EDA and MATLAB/Simulink exposure are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Master/PhD in Power Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
• 3–8 years of power electronics design & testing for industrial drives.
• Experience with CAD/EDA tools like AutoCAD, E-Plan and MATLAB/Simulink preferred.

Responsibilities

• LV/MV Drive engineering and core power electronics design for AC/DC systems.
• Sizing, hardware design, loss budget calculation, filter & protection circuits.
• Understand specifications and realize requirements using calculations, modeling and simulations.
• Prepare and validate design documents: configurations, operation principles, BOM, SLD and drawings.
• Verify prototype hardware performance under specified conditions.
• Support manufacturing at factory or vendor facilities; coordinate with lead engineer.
• Travel to commission engineered projects as required.

Essential Responsibilities

• LV/MV Drive Engineering - Core Power Electronics (AC / DC systems) and Control cabinet design as per requirement.
• Engage in Sizing, product hardware design / loss budget calculation / Filter & protection circuits.
• Experience in Drive Control concepts and architecture. HIL testing knowledge/experience is an added advantage.
• Understand product / project specifications and realize requirements to design using calculations, modeling and simulations.
• Design system/equipment to meet reliability, testing standards, manufacturability, material and cost guidelines
• Prepare & validate Design documents - Configurations, principles of operation, application guidelines, specifications, BOM, SLD & drawings as per requirement.
• Verify functional performance of prototype hardware under all specified operating conditions.
• Support Manufacturing of equipment at Factory / Vendor facility
• Document functional test requirements and conduct test according to applicable standards (UL/IEC etc...) /conduct project FAT's.
• Coordinate with Lead Engineer and team Manager on product / project execution on a continuous basis.
• May require travel to commission engineered projects as required.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Bachelor or Master's or PhD degree in Power Electronics or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent
• 3 to 8 years of Power electronics design & testing expertise for industrial drives and its related components (Renewables / Oil & Gas / Marine / Metal Process Industrial knowledge preferred)
• Preferred experience/knowledge in Electrical design / Simulation tools like AUTOCAD / E-Plan and MATLAB/Simulink
• In-depth knowledge of motors /drive control Systems.
• Internship completion in relevant field is an added advantage,
