Job summary

Sterlite Technologies (STL) is seeking a hands-on Polymer/R&D expert to lead advanced material development for cables. You will plan and execute development trials, work with suppliers on raw materials, and drive characterization using in-house and external labs.

You will also develop fire-rated cable solutions, coordinate UL/CE/CPR certification activities, and support production with material-related issues. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Masters/Bachelors in polymer science/engineering or materials science fields.
• 5+ years in R&D polymer background/ process development or materials science knowledge in cable or other industries.
• Strong communication and project execution skills.
• Proficient in data analysis and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Understand the new product requirements and plan development trials with data sheets, process sheets, raw materials, tooling and machines.
• Drive material science development of new innovations with raw material suppliers.
• Material characterization by in-house testing and external collaboration (FTIR/TGA/DSC/FESEM).
• Develop fire rated cables for UL/CE/CPR certification and coordinate testing with global laboratories.
• Support production and process engineering teams on material-related issues during process.
• Establish extrusion process expertise for FTR and get product approval from customers including witness testing.
• Prepare product technical documents for customer reference and maintain records during development phases.
• Generate new ideas for product design, modification and patent filing.
• Coordinate with design and NPD teams on new product developments.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Understand the new product requirements and customer expectations and plan

development trials with proper data sheets, process sheets, raw materials,

tooling (if needed, then design the tooling) and machines

• Drive the material science development of all new innovation with raw material

suppliers.

• Material characterization by using in-house facility and external collaboration

(FTIR/TGA/DSC/FESEM etc).

• Development of fire rated cables for UL/CE/CPR certification and collaboration

with global laboratories for testing and certification.

• Support for production and process engg teams on material related issues

during process.

• Establishing cable extrusion process expertise for FTR.
• Get product approval from the customers including witness testing, if required
• Preparing product technical documents for customer reference
• Maintain the records of all documents during the product development phases
• Generating new ideas for product design, modification, and participate in

patent filing

• Technical paper preparation and presentation at different symposium
• Working closely with design team and NPD team on new product developments.
• Coordination with SCM / production teams for execution of alternate RM /

alternate new RM trials introduction for cost reduction and process

standardization.

Preferred candidate profile

• Masters/Bachelors degree in polymer science / polymer engineering / material

science fields.

• 5+ years of experience in R&D polymer background/ Process development or

materials science knowledge in cable or other industries.

• Skilled user of the MS-office, R&D project execution
• Outstanding oral and written communication
• Self-sufficient and able to work independently.

Technical Skills:

• - Hands on experience of polymer material testing, extrusion process and
• characterization and good understanding of extrusion tool design.
• - Hands on with tools like MS Excel, Word and ppt. to analyse the data.
• - Polymer compounding expertise (LSZH, PVC & PE)
