Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Senior Pharmacist is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, ensuring the safe and accurate dispensing of medications, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing inventory, and leading the pharmacy team. The role requires close coordination with doctors, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and medication safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and dispense medications accurately as per valid prescriptions.
  • Supervise and guide junior pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, and trainees.
  • Verify prescriptions for appropriate dosage, drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Pharmacy Council regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels and monitor inventory to prevent shortages.
  • Monitor expiry dates and ensure timely removal and documentation of expired or damaged medicines.
  • Coordinate procurement of medicines and medical consumables with the purchase department.
  • Ensure proper storage of medicines, including cold-chain products and controlled drugs.
  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records, registers, and documentation.
  • Counsel patients on medication usage, dosage, storage, and possible side effects.
  • Support doctors and nursing staff by providing drug information and pharmaceutical guidance.
  • Participate in medication safety initiatives, audits, NABH quality activities, and continuous quality improvement programs.
  • Handle emergency medication requests and ensure timely supply to all hospital departments.
  • Prepare duty rosters and monitor staff attendance and performance.
  • Train and mentor pharmacy staff on SOPs, medication safety, and regulatory updates.
  • Ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety of the pharmacy at all times.
Qualification
  • Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm)
  • Valid Pharmacist Registration with the State Pharmacy Council
  • Additional certifications in hospital pharmacy are preferred.
Experience
  • 4-6 years of hospital pharmacy experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or senior role.
