Department: Clinical Services Optometry
Reports To: Centre Head / Chief Optometrist / Medical Director

Job Summary

The Senior Optometrist is responsible for delivering comprehensive optometric services, supporting ophthalmologists in patient management, supervising junior optometrists, ensuring high clinical standards, and contributing to excellent patient outcomes. The role involves advanced diagnostic testing, pre- and post-operative care, contact lens services, and clinical quality initiatives in a high-volume eye care environment. This aligns with Centre for Sight's emphasis on patient-centric care, professional development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction for adults and children.
  • Perform slit lamp examination, retinoscopy, subjective and objective refraction.
  • Diagnose refractive errors and identify ocular abnormalities requiring ophthalmologist referral.
  • Manage contact lens assessment, fitting, dispensing, and follow-up.
  • Provide low vision assessment and counseling where applicable.
  • Deliver pre-operative and post-operative evaluation for cataract, LASIK/SMILE, glaucoma, retina, cornea, and refractive surgery patients.
  • Educate patients regarding eye health, treatment options, spectacle use, contact lens care, and preventive eye care.

Clinical Leadership
  • Supervise and mentor junior optometrists and optometry interns.
  • Review clinical quality and ensure adherence to SOPs.
  • Support skill development and training programs.
  • Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Patient Experience
  • Maintain high patient satisfaction through professional communication.
  • Counsel patients regarding surgery, investigations, and treatment plans.
  • Handle patient concerns effectively and empathetically.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation.
  • Ensure NABH/JCI and infection control compliance.
  • Follow hospital protocols for patient safety and confidentiality.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with ophthalmologists, OT, nursing, optical, and front office teams.
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of optometry equipment.
  • Assist in inventory management for diagnostic and contact lens supplies.
  • Support outreach camps and vision screening activities when required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) – Mandatory
  • Master of Optometry (M.Optom) – Preferred
  • Registration with the applicable State Optometry Council/Association (where applicable)
Experience
  • 5–8 years of clinical optometry experience.
  • Experience in a multispecialty eye hospital preferred.
  • Exposure to cataract, refractive surgery, glaucoma, retina, cornea, pediatric ophthalmology, and contact lens practice is desirable.
