Roles & Responsibilities
Patient Care & Communication
- Maintain a professional appearance and ID badge.
- Greet patients courteously and warmly.
- Use positive body language and maintain a friendly demeanor.
- Collect the Patient Movement Form and inform patients about the next steps (NCT/AR/refraction).
- Call patients systematically for their turn.
- Explain NCT/AR procedures and address patient queries professionally.
- Take thorough patient history before diagnostics.
- Counsel patients on eye health and contact lens hygiene.
Refraction & Diagnostic Procedures
- Clean and sanitize the NCT/AR machine in front of the patient.
- Change chin rest paper after every patient.
- Follow the 5-step accuracy protocol for refraction.
- Conduct and analyze vision tests.
- Diagnose common sight problems such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism.
- Screen for eye diseases including Glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
- Perform advanced techniques like cycloplegic refraction, fogging, and JCC.
- Use refraction tools: autorefractors, retinoscopes, phoropters, trial lens sets.
- Refer eligible patients to Lasik counseling department.
Patient Management & Treatment
- Offer treatments such as vision therapy and low-vision rehab.
- Provide pre- and post-operative eye care.
- Accurately record all findings and procedures in EMR/registers.
Training & Administration
- Train interns and BSc students in clinical procedures.
- Maintain attendance and leave records for students.
- Allocate monthly postings for MSc candidates.
- Participate in weekly meetings to discuss issues and improvements.
- Deliver lectures to BSc Optometry students.
Patient Counseling & Support
- Greet patients warmly and courteously.
- Verify details in EMR and understand doctor's notes.
- Clearly explain diagnosis, cataract surgery, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
- Educate patients on IOL options such as monofocal, multifocal, toric and expected outcomes.
- Address patient concerns professionally and empathetically.
- Discuss costs, packages, and payment procedures.
- Confirm doctor schedules and book surgery dates.
- Provide pre-op instructions, lab orders, and printed materials.
Pre- & Post-Surgery Coordination
- Update EMR, Zoho CRM, and maintain proper documentation.
- Ensure complete counselling and update Medic/CRM systems.
- Coordinate with OT for lens availability and preparation.
- Submit surgery checklists to the ward and reception teams.
- Call patients before surgery to confirm attendance.
- Follow up with patients post-surgery to ensure recovery.
- Visit wards on surgery days for monitoring and clarification.
- Maintain and manage the follow-up patient list effectively.
