Job summary

V.Group is seeking a Marine Operations Specialist based in Chennai to provide subject matter expertise in marine operations, navigation, and cargo operations. You will escalate safety issues, support vessel performance, and ensure flawless service delivery by overseeing risk and compliance across assigned vessels.

Essential qualifications include a Class 2 CO certificate and at least five years of ship-type experience, with three years in senior officer roles.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Class 2 CO/2nd Engineer certificate and seagoing experience.
  • At least three years as a senior shipboard officer.
  • Five years of relevant ship-type experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure vessels are operated safely and escalate safety issues.
  • Ensure customers benefit from operational performance of their vessels.
  • Own the product delivered to internal customers with authority to delegate and decide.
  • Monitor voyage performance, ETA, and weather/good practices; maintain logs.
  • Advocate for ShipSure usage across Operations Centre and onboard.
  • Risk assess vessels using ShipSure tools and maintain action records.

Overall Purpose of The Job

To provide additional subject matter expertise for marine operations (including Navigation), cargo operations and operational safety issues which may be escalated in their assigned regions of coverage.

Key Responsibilities And Tasks
Safety

Safety is our priority, and the Marine Operations Specialist has the responsibility of ensuring managed vessels are operated safely and effectively by the management office, including escalation of safety issues as appropriate.

Customer

The Marine Operations team shall ensure Customers of the Operations Centre fully benefit from the operational performance of their vessels.

Ownership

Own the product delivered to internal Customers, having the authority and accountability to delegate and to take the necessary decisions to ensure Flawless Service Delivery. Overall accountability for the vessel’s safety management remains with the ISM DoC holding office.

Monitor

Monitor The Compliance Readiness Of Allocated Vessels In

  • Voyage Performance monitoring, including port line-up
  • ETA monitoring and downtime accuracy
  • Bad weather alerting
  • Drug and Alcohol testing programme
  • Environmental Compliance Inspection programme
  • Mooring Audit programme
  • Cargo Audits
  • MLC Self-Assessments
  • Safety Self-Assessment programme
  • Navigation audit programme
  • Drills and Campaigns monitoring
  • Hours of work and rest
  • Safety Meeting Responses
Reporting

To be an advocate of ShipSure and ensure it is properly utilised within the Operations Centre, Ship Management offices and onboard.

Risk Management

Utilise Operational Risk Analysers, Technical Dashboards, Sentinel, and other Shipsure compliance tools to risk assess vessels to prioritise vessels for Ops Centre support.

Maintain records of support actions taken, including action items for follow up by the ship management office.

Essential

Minimum qualification of Class 2 (Chief Officer or 2nd Engineer) certificate of competency and seagoing experience pursuant to the STCW, with not less than three years’ experience as a senior shipboard officer and five years of relevant ship type experience,

or

Practical experience in ship management operations in a shipping company with relevant ship type experience.
