The hospital’s mission is to deliver lasting, comfortable eye care to patients of all economic backgrounds and to expand services to remote areas beyond Siliguri.

Role Description The Ophthalmologist will provide comprehensive clinical and surgical eye care to patients in an on-site, full-time role located in Siliguri. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting outpatient consultations, performing detailed eye examinations, interpreting diagnostic tests, and recommending appropriate treatment plans. The role involves performing cataract and other anterior and posterior segment surgeries, administering laser procedures, and managing preoperative and postoperative patient care. The Ophthalmologist will collaborate with optometrists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care and adherence to hospital protocols. Additional duties include maintaining accurate relevant medical records, participating in clinical audits, supporting academic or training activities, and contributing to outreach initiatives aligned with the hospital’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Recognized medical degree (MBBS) and postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology with valid medical registration.
  • Clinical expertise in Ophthalmology, with strong skills in diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye conditions. Foundational knowledge in medicine relevant to ophthalmic practice, including systemic diseases affecting the eyes.
  • Advanced surgical skills in cataract and other ophthalmic Surgery, including phacoemulsification and related techniques.
  • Proficiency in Optometry-related assessments, including refraction, basic vision testing, and interpretation of diagnostic reports.
  • Hands-on experience with laser procedures for retinal, glaucoma, and other ophthalmic indications.
  • Prior experience in a tertiary care or super-speciality eye hospital is highly beneficial.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and with diverse patient populations.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, continuous learning, technology adoption, and participation in clinical quality improvement.
  • Willingness to engage in community eye care programs and outreach activities in and around Siliguri.
