Job summary

Wärtsilä in Khopoli, India, is seeking an experienced procurement professional to manage direct local and imported material, vendor selection, and cost/lead time negotiations. You will prepare supplier recommendations and coordinate with SCM and Factory heads to ensure accurate pricing and delivery details.

The role requires 8–10 years in procurement, BE/B-Tech in mechanical or electrical engineering, and experience with SAP/MM and import activities.

Qualifications

• BE/B-Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 8–10 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in SAP/MM Module preferred.
• Experience in import activities and supplier negotiation.
• Strong communication and cost awareness.

Responsibilities

• Procurement of Direct Local & Imported material.
• Purchase requisition scrutiny and vendor selection from vendor master.
• Cost and lead time negotiation; cost comparison of material (subcontracting & bought out).
• Prepare supplier recommendation sheet and obtain approvals from Head SCM & Head Factory.
• Follow up for order confirmations & verify correct material specs, prices & delivery dates.
• Prepare PR-PO Sheet and update delivery dates, weights, shipment mode, etc.
• Cross-check waybill & checklist vs PO & supplier invoice to avoid BOE errors.
• Coordinate with CHA for correct BOE and handling of customs queries.
• Freight & condition updates; release/approve supplier invoices; GR/IR issues.
• Monitor cost vs freight to meet freight % targets over material value; decide air/sea freight by urgency.
• Address supplier payment issues, quality rejection and warranty claims.
• Ensure material quality from vendors and act as resolution owner for supplier quality notifications.
• Implement cost-saving initiatives; support Logistics & Finance; analyze spends and benchmarking.

Job responsibilities:

• Procurement of Direct Local & Imported material.
• Purchase requisition scrutiny and vendor selection from vendor master.
• Cost and Lead time negotiation, Cost comparison of material (Subcontracting & bought out)
• Preparation of supplier recommendation sheet and its approval from Head SCM & Head Factory.
• Follow up for order confirmations & verification for correct material specifications, Prices & delivery dates.
• Preparation of PR- PO Sheet & Updation of all details like delivery dates, weights, mode of shipment etc.
• Cross checking of waybill (BL /AWB) & check list as per the purchase order & supplier invoice to avoid incorrect information filling in BOE.
• Co-ordinates with CHA for preparation of correct BOE & Handling custom queries
• Freight & condition updation, Release / Approve supplier invoices, GR/IR Issues.
• Monitor Cost vs Freight report to achieve set target of freight % over material value. (Freight Optimization), Air/Sea freight decision based on production urgencies.
• Handling supplier payment issues, Quality rejection & Warranty claims.
• Responsible for quality of material supplied by vendors.
• Resolution owner for supplier quality notification.
• Cost saving initiatives
• Support Logistics & Finance function
• Collate and analyze spends and supplier data as well as to execute benchmarking in order to continuously improve and enhance the supplier network.
• To follow and implement Code of conduct & Safe work practice with all suppliers.

Education & Skill Set requirement:

• BE/B-Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering graduate
• 8 - 10 years of relevant experience
• Experience in SAP/MM Module is preferred
• Experience in import activities
• Experience in supplier negotiation is a must have
• Communication Skills
• Cost awareness & effectiveness
