Job summary

CanKids KidsCan in India seeks a Pediatric Oncology Nurse to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to children undergoing cancer treatment and to support their families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, document meticulously, follow infection control standards, administer chemotherapy safely, and lead education sessions for parents while contributing to quality improvement.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in pediatric care and/or oncology nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care, emotional support, and counseling to pediatric cancer patients and their families.
  • Administer chemotherapy and other prescribed medications safely and accurately.
  • Maintain precise and timely patient records, including chemotherapy administration, IV site monitoring, pain assessment, and treatment progress.
  • Support the multidisciplinary team through active participation in weekly care planning meetings.
  • Ensure seamless communication with referring hospitals regarding patient status, treatment plans, and medication details.
  • Collaborate with outreach teams at affiliated cancer centers as required.
  • Manage symptom control, wound care, nutritional support, and hygiene for all pediatric patients.
  • Design and facilitate patient and parent education sessions in coordination with the Parent Support Group.
  • Partner with the social support team to provide holistic counseling through diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives to reduce chemotherapy-related complications.

Job Description
Summary:

The Pediatric Oncology Nurse plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to children undergoing cancer treatment and their families. This position is central to ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care across the treatment journey—from diagnosis through to recovery or end-of-life care. The nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, supports clinical protocols, maintains rigorous documentation, and contributes to continuous quality improvement. By fostering strong communication, leading education initiatives, and upholding infection control standards, the nurse enhances patient outcomes, strengthens care coordination, and supports the emotional well-being of patients and caregivers. This role is essential to the mission of delivering holistic, evidence-based pediatric oncology care within a dynamic and supportive healthcare environment.

  • Ensure seamless communication with referring hospitals regarding patient status, treatment plans, and medication details to enhance safety and continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with outreach teams from DCTH at Chattai clinics and affiliated cancer centers as required.
  • Manage symptom control, wound care, nutritional support, and hygiene for all pediatric patients.
  • Design and facilitate patient and parent education sessions in coordination with the Parent Support Group.
  • Partner with the social support team to provide holistic counseling, including support during diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, including reducing chemotherapy-related complications such as extravasation, infiltration, and chemo burns.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in pediatric care and/or oncology nursing; experience in palliative care is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated competence in safe medication administration, accurate documentation, and adherence to institutional chemotherapy protocols.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records and standard office software.
  • Strong command of spoken and written English, along with fluency in the local dialect for effective patient communication.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and counseling skills with empathy, patience, and emotional resilience.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a team member in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, including successful completion of annual written and practical assessments in pediatric oncology and chemotherapy.
  • Adherence to infection control standards, including proper use of PPE, biomedical waste management, instrument sterilization, and hand hygiene protocols.
