Reports to - Network Operations Manager/IT Manager
Job Overview
The Network Engineer is responsible for handling complex network issues and providing high-level support for escalated incidents. The role requires expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining the enterprise network infrastructure. This position involves troubleshooting network systems, addressing security vulnerabilities, optimizing performance, and ensuring business continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design and Implementation
Design, configure, and deploy complex Layer 3 routing and switching networks, including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
Develop and implement network architecture and engineering plans.
Collaborate with IT teams to integrate and optimize network solutions.
Advanced Troubleshooting and Support
Provide support for escalated network issues from L1 and L2 engineers.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex network outages, performance issues, and configuration errors.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for network incidents and outages.
Monitoring and Optimization
Monitor network performance and perform capacity planning to ensure network reliability and scalability.
Implement traffic engineering solutions and QoS configurations.
Conduct periodic audits and optimizations of existing network infrastructure.
Security and Compliance
Ensure network security through the implementation of firewalls, VPNs, and IPS/IDS solutions.
Enforce security policies and procedures for network devices.
Perform vulnerability assessments and patch management on networking hardware.
Collaboration and Documentation
Work closely with vendors and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
Document network diagrams, configurations, and procedures for future reference.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Technology and Standards
Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies, solutions, and services.
Qualifications and Skills
Education - bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience
5+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 2 years in an L3 role.
Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, and VRF.
Experience with network firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and other network security protocols.
Certifications (Preferred)
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent.
Other relevant certifications (e.g., Juniper, Fortinet, Meraki, AWS networking, etc.).
Technical Skills
Proficiency with Cisco, Juniper, and other network devices.
Deep understanding of WAN, LAN, and data center technologies.
Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, PRTG).
Familiarity with cloud networking solutions and SD-WAN.
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work under pressure in high-stakes environments.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
