Job summary

AstraYAN is seeking a highly motivated Autonomous Marine Systems Engineer to lead hydrodynamic modeling, maneuvering simulations, and propulsion integration for next‑generation Autonomous Surface Vessels. You will collaborate with software, control, hardware, and embedded teams to deliver robust autonomous operations.

The role emphasizes developing GNC algorithms, validating designs through simulation and sea trials, and delivering clear technical reports to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in simulation of maneuvering of marine vehicles and vehicle dynamic modeling (6-DOF equations of motion).
• Practical exposure to autonomous marine vehicles control and path planning algorithms.
• Proficiency in engineering simulation and programming tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or C++.
• Responsible, disciplined, well organized, proactive team player with good soft skills.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop hydrodynamic models and execute high-fidelity simulation of maneuvering of marine vehicles in complex sea states and constrained environments.
• Design, implement, and validate guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) algorithms for autonomous marine vehicles control and path planning.
• Work closely with software engineers and control systems engineers to integrate hydrodynamic models with autonomous marine control systems.
• Collaborate with hardware, sensor, and embedded systems teams to interface control algorithms with onboard actuators, propulsion hardware, and mission controllers.
• Prepare and deliver technical reports, simulation data analyses, and design reviews for stakeholders, ensuring clarity and effective communication across teams.
• Perform rigorous validation, testing, and debugging - both in simulation environments (HIL/SIL) and during sea trials to ensure safety, reliability, and robustness of autonomous operations.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our team in the role of Autonomous Marine Systems Engineer. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the hydrodynamic modeling, maneuvering simulation, and propulsion integration for next-generation Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs). You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that address both technical and operational requirements in autonomous marine vehicle control and path planning.

What We're Looking For:

Minimum Qualifications, Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in simulation of maneuvering of marine vehicles and vehicle dynamic modeling (6-DOF equations of motion).
• Practical exposure to autonomous marine vehicles control and path planning algorithms.
• Proficiency in engineering simulation and programming tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or C++.
• Responsible, disciplined, well organized, committed to self-improvement, proactive team player with good soft skills.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct experience with Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs), or commercial Autonomous Ships.
• In-depth understanding of Marine Control Systems, dynamic positioning (DP), and autopilots.
• Knowledge of marine communication interfaces, robotic frameworks (e.g., ROS/ROS 2), or sensor fusion (IMU, DVL, GNSS, Sonar).
• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git and GitLab.
• Familiarity with marine classification society rules, guidelines, and statutory regulations for autonomous vessels.
