An MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) trainee at Wadhwani AI will learn and train to design and execute robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks required to measure and optimize the impact of applied AI solutions for underserved populations. The trainee will actively engage in field monitoring, ensure ethical research and data privacy compliance, and contribute to tracking key program metrics and insights that drive data-driven decision-making and high-quality reporting.

Roles And Responsibilities
- As an MEL trainee, you will assist and shadow the MEL team in designing MEL plans, logical frameworks (log frames), and foundational project documentation to build core technical knowledge.
- Participate in field monitoring visits to observe project implementation firsthand and help gather qualitative insights during data collection activities under senior guidance.
- Learn ethical research compliance by helping prepare research protocols and organizing administrative paperwork for Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) or ethics committees.
- Support the creation and formatting of project reports, presentations, and standardized templates destined for internal review and stakeholder dissemination.
- Support tracking of program indicators, monitoring dashboards, and routine project metrics to assist in timely reporting and decision-making
- Develop data quality habits by accurately documenting, tracking, and consolidating monitoring and evaluation findings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information and adhere to all data privacy and protection norms.
- Perform any additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor in line with project requirements.
Requirements
- Candidates should have a post-graduate degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Development Studies, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of M&E frameworks, research design, data collection methods, and statistical analysis; familiarity with R, Stata, or SPSS.
- Ability to multitask, and should be a quick learner.
- Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a multicultural, interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to work effectively with geographically dispersed teams.
- Occasional travel to field sites may be required as part of project activities
- Proficiency in Google Suite.
