Job summary

Iconic It Consulting Services in Bengaluru is seeking an experienced Tomcat, containerization, and OpenShift VM Technical Lead to oversee design, deployment, optimization, automation, and support of enterprise middleware platforms.

You will lead middleware infrastructure services across Apache Tomcat, containerized workloads, OpenShift VM and container environments, and DevOps toolchains to ensure secure, scalable, highly available production hosting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, tune, and support Tomcat environments across dev, test, and prod.
• Manage Tomcat architecture, clustering, thread pools, JVM settings, and HA.
• Oversee WAR/JAR deployments and release activities for VM and container platforms.
• Drive containerization with Docker/Podman, registries, and image hardening.
• Lead OpenShift VM/container platforms including namespaces, routes, secrets, and PVs.
• Implement health checks, readiness probes, scaling, and capacity monitoring.
• Integrate workloads with Nginx/Apache, load balancers, and security controls.
• Collaborate with security, network, and DevOps for hardening and fixes.
• Lead incident resolution, performance analysis, and root cause investigations.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Tomcat, Containerization, and OpenShift VM Technical Lead to oversee the design, deployment, optimization, automation, and support of enterprise middleware platforms. The ideal candidate will lead middleware infrastructure services across Apache Tomcat, containerized workloads, OpenShift VM/container environments, and supporting DevOps toolchains, ensuring secure, scalable, highly available, and production-ready application hosting platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, deployment, configuration, tuning, and support of Apache Tomcat environments across development, testing, staging, and production.
• Manage Tomcat server architecture including instances, connectors, thread pools, JVM parameters, session management, clustering, and high-availability configurations.
• Oversee application deployments for WAR/JAR-based Java applications and support release activities across VM-based and containerized middleware platforms.
• Drive containerization initiatives using Docker/Podman images, container registries, image hardening, runtime configuration, and deployment standards.
• Lead implementation and support of OpenShift VM and container platforms, including namespaces/projects, routes, services, deployments, persistent volumes, secrets, config maps, and resource quotas.
• Implement platform reliability practices including health checks, readiness/liveness probes, auto-restart policies, scaling strategies, and capacity monitoring.
• Integrate Tomcat and container workloads with Apache/Nginx, load balancers, API gateways, SSL certificates, identity services, and enterprise network/security controls.
• Collaborate with application, security, database, network, and DevOps teams for platform hardening, vulnerability remediation, certificate renewals, and secure configuration baselines.
• Lead incident resolution, performance troubleshooting, JVM/thread/heap dump analysis, log review, and root cause analysis for middleware availability and performance issues.
• Automate middleware provisioning, configuration, patching, and deployment activities using shell scripting, Ansible, Jenkins/Git-based pipelines, or equivalent automation tools.
• Support disaster recovery readiness, environment failover validation,

backup/restore procedures, and participation in DR drills for middleware platforms.

• Guide and mentor junior engineers and enforce best practices for configuration management, change control, documentation, operational handover, and platform governance.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in middleware infrastructure administration with at least 3+ years in a technical lead or senior middleware engineering role.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Apache Tomcat installation, configuration, clustering, tuning, patching, and troubleshooting
• Containerization using Docker/Podman, image build processes, registry management, and image vulnerability remediation
• OpenShift VM/container platform operations including projects,

deployments, routes, services, secrets, config maps, persistent storage, and resource management

• JVM tuning, garbage collection analysis, thread dump analysis, heap dump review, and application performance troubleshooting
• SSL/TLS, keystores, truststores, certificates, reverse proxy integration, and secure middleware configurations
• Linux/Unix administration, shell scripting, automation, log analysis, and operational runbook creation
• Good understanding of Java application hosting models, application lifecycle management, release management, and middleware deployment patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Maven/Gradle, Nexus/Artifactory, or equivalent enterprise DevOps platforms.
• Proficient in incident, problem, change, and release management, preferably under ITIL frameworks.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, ELK, or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Red Hat OpenShift certification, Kubernetes certification, or equivalent container platform certification is preferred.
• Experience supporting middleware platforms in banking, financial services, or other regulated enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of cloud-native architecture, microservices deployment patterns, service mesh, API gateway integration, and platform modernization programs.
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, Helm charts, Kubernetes operators, and automated compliance/security scanning tools.
