Job summary

Ascendion is seeking an analytical AS/400 + COBOL/400 Developer to support and maintain core legacy systems in a Bangalore hybrid setup. You will troubleshoot issues, monitor performance, and ensure smooth nightly processing and policy data operations.

The role requires hands-on expertise with AS/400, COBOL, DB2 querying, and CL, along with strong troubleshooting and communication skills. Experience with legacy applications and insurance domain knowledge are a plus.

Qualifications

• Ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical and application issues.

• Quick learner with ability to rapidly pick up new systems, batch jobs and data processes.

About The Role

We are looking for an analytical and communicative professional to support and maintain our core legacy systems. In this role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting application issues, monitoring system performance, and ensuring the smooth execution of nightly processing jobs and policy data operations.

Job Title: AS/400 + COBOL/400 Developer

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve basic application and system issues.
• Monitor application performance using tools like Dynatrace or IBM application monitoring tools.
• Manage and monitor WINS, Nightly jobs, and associated Policy Data processing.
• Interact directly with users to provide support and clearly document incidents.
• Identify and spot trends in system errors or data issues to proactively improve system stability.

Minimum Qualifications

• Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience working with an AS400 operating system, COBOL, DB2 Querying, and CL (Command Line).
• Troubleshooting: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical and application issues.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for user interaction and incident documentation.
• Learning Aptitude: Quick learner with the ability to rapidly pick up new systems, batch jobs, and data processes.

Desired Qualifications (Optional)

• Basic DB2 SQL and data analysis skills.
• Prior experience using application performance monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, IBM).
• Previous experience supporting legacy AS400 applications.
• Industry knowledge or experience working within the insurance domain.
