Job summary

Concepts Hygiene in Gujarat, India seeks a microbiology lab specialist to perform testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished cosmetic products, including detergents, disinfectants, cleaners, soaps, and shampoos.

You will conduct MLT, TVC, TBC, TYMC, and specified pathogen testing, monitor water quality, and maintain records with precision. The role requires aseptic techniques and strict GMP/GLP practices.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of microbiological testing methods and aseptic laboratory practices.
  • Familiarity with IS, BIS, ISO, and cosmetic microbiological testing requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with membrane filtration, pour plate, spread plate, and serial dilution techniques.
  • Knowledge of preservative effectiveness testing (PET/Challenge Test) is preferred.
  • Experience in environmental monitoring and water microbiology.
  • Good documentation practices (GDP) and data integrity awareness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products including cosmetics.
  • Conduct MLT, TVC, TBC, TYMC, and specified pathogen testing as per standards.
  • Test and monitor purified water, RO water, and process water.
  • Carry out environmental monitoring of production areas, equipment, and personnel.
  • Prepare, sterilize, and maintain microbiological media, reagents, and cultures.
  • Perform aseptic techniques and maintain contamination-free practices.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test reports, logbooks, and COAs.
  • Investigate OOS/OOT results and support CAPA implementation.
  • Ensure calibration, qualification, and routine maintenance of instruments.
  • Support product stability studies and preservative efficacy testing where applicable.
  • Coordinate with QA, QC, R&D, and Production teams for investigations and improvements.
  • Ensure GMP/GLP/ISO 9001 compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in internal/external audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products including liquid detergents, disinfectants, toilet cleaners, floor cleaners, hand wash, liquid soap, shampoo, and other cosmetic products.
  • Conduct Microbial Limit Tests (MLT), Total Viable Count (TVC), Total Bacterial Count (TBC), Total Yeast & Mold Count (TYMC), and specified pathogen testing as per applicable standards.
  • Test and monitor purified water, RO water, and process water for microbiological quality.
  • Carry out environmental monitoring of production areas, equipment, and personnel using swab and air sampling techniques.
  • Prepare, sterilize, and maintain microbiological media, reagents, and microbial cultures.
  • Perform aseptic techniques and maintain contamination-free laboratory practices.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test reports, logbooks, and Certificates of Analysis (COA).
  • Investigate Out-of-Specification (OOS) and Out-of-Trend (OOT) microbiological results and support CAPA implementation.
  • Ensure calibration, qualification, and routine maintenance of microbiology laboratory instruments.
  • Support product stability studies and preservative efficacy testing (where applicable).
  • Coordinate with QA, QC, R&D, and Production teams for microbiological investigations and product quality improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, ISO 9001, and applicable cosmetic regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits, external audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
