Job summary

Umendra Life Sciences is seeking a Microbiologist to perform comprehensive microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products and water, along with environmental monitoring across production and QA areas.

Responsibilities include media preparation, culture maintenance and meticulous record-keeping, with a strong emphasis on GMP/GLP compliance and regulatory adherence. Collaboration with QA/QC, Production and R&D is essential.

Qualifications

• BSc/ MSc in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in Pharma, Cosmetics, Personal Care, Skin Care or FMCG manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, water and environmental monitoring samples.
• Conduct microbial limit tests, pathogen testing, total bacterial count, fungal count and other applicable microbiological tests.
• Perform environmental monitoring of production, packing, laboratory and controlled areas.
• Prepare and sterilize culture media and perform media growth promotion and suitability testing.
• Maintain microbial cultures, laboratory reagents, media and microbiology records.
• Conduct microbiological testing of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, personal care and skin-care products as per approved specifications and SOPs.
• Perform water microbiological analysis, including purified/RO water and process water.
• Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, SOPs and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, incubators, autoclaves and related records.
• Prepare test reports, worksheets, logbooks and other microbiology documentation.
• Support OOS/OOT investigations, deviation investigations, CAPA and contamination investigations.
• Support method validation/verification, preservative efficacy testing and other microbiological validation activities.
• Participate in internal, customer and regulatory audits.
• Coordinate with QA, QC, Production, R&D and other departments for quality-related activities.
• Ensure proper laboratory safety, hygiene, contamination control and microbiological waste disposal.

Preferred candidate profile

• Qualification: B.Sc./M.Sc. in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or a related field.
• Experience: 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in Pharma, Cosmetics, Personal Care, Skin Care or FMCG manufacturing.
• Strong practical knowledge of microbiological testing and laboratory practices.
• Good knowledge of GMP, GLP, SOPs, environmental monitoring and microbiological quality control.
• Hands-on experience with microbial limit testing, pathogen testing, water testing and media preparation.
• Knowledge of OOS/OOT, deviation, CAPA and investigation procedures will be preferred.
• Experience in cosmetic/skin-care product microbiology and preservative efficacy testing will be an added advantage.
• Good documentation and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Good analytical, observation, problem-solving and communication skills.
