MEP Engineer – Chennai, India
Overview
The MEP Engineer will be a key member of the Linxon GETS (Global Engineering and Technology Services) team, contributing to the effective execution and operation of project activities on international Transmission & Distribution (T&D) substation projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed HVAC system design, including load calculations, equipment sizing, duct routing, and ventilation design in compliance with project requirements.
- Design and review electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and cable routing for substation buildings.
- Develop plumbing and drainage systems: water supply, sewage, stormwater drainage, and firefighting systems per applicable standards.
- Prepare and review single line diagrams (SLDs), load schedules, panel schedules, and equipment layouts.
- Coordinate with primary, secondary, and civil engineering teams to align MEP systems with substation equipment and layouts.
- Conduct design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings to ensure clash‑free and optimized designs.
- Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, and material specifications for compliance with project and contractual requirements.
- Support procurement teams by providing technical inputs, evaluating vendor offers, and assisting in technical bid analysis.
- Perform site inspections and audits to verify installation quality and compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Assist in testing, commissioning, and handover activities of MEP systems, ensuring they operate as per design intent.
- Incorporate energy‑efficient and sustainable design practices wherever applicable.
- Apply international standards such as IEC, BS, NFPA, ASHRAE, and local regulations in all design activities.
- Identify project risks related to MEP scope and propose mitigation measures.
- Maintain proper documentation, revision control, and records of all MEP deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and BIM modelers within the team.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in substation design for MEP.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of professional experience in Building Services / MEP Design.
- Proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Solid technical knowledge of MEP services with ability to specialize in HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing systems.
- Good understanding of BIM workflows, 3D modelling, coordination, clash detection, and preparation of general arrangement drawings.
- Familiarity with IEC, BS, NFPA, ASHRAE standards and relevant design guidelines.
- Experience preparing engineering deliverables from concept to detailed design and GFC.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Well‑organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
- Exposure to international projects, especially UK standards, is an advantage.
- Experience in substation buildings, power and electrical infrastructure, or industrial projects is preferred.
