Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Sr. Designer - Electrical in Chennai, India to lead 2D CAD/MicroStation design for substation projects, develop protection schemes, and deliver detailed drawings and reports.

The role requires 10+ years in CAD/MicroStation and hands‑on experience with substation deliverables. You will coordinate with civil, structural and electrical teams, participate in client reviews, and ensure schedules and quality meet Linxon and client guidelines.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in CAD/MicroStation design.
• Site experience is beneficial.
• Hands‑on experience preparing substation deliverables (SLD, PSLD, panels, mounting, internal views).
• AutoCAD hands‑on experience is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Independently use AutoCAD/MicroStation for 2D design and detail engineering of substation projects.
• Develop protection and control schemes for substations up to 400kV, including single‑line, three‑line, AC/DC schematics, trip matrices, interlock logics, terminal block drawings, relay selections, and wiring diagrams.
• Design relay panels, control panels, Mosaic/Mimic panels, LCC panels, SAS/SCADA, DFR, DSM panels, detail drawings, cable schedules, and bills of materials.
• Prepare technical reports, design bases, specifications, and drawings.
• Ensure designs meet IEEE, NESC, and ANSI standards.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and primary electrical teams; attend client and internal weekly meetings.
• Monitor schedules and ensure timely delivery of design packages; maintain records of design changes and engineering decisions.

Sr. Designer - Electrical / Sr Electrical Designer

Location: Chennai, India

What will you do?

• Independently use AutoCAD/MicroStation for 2D design and detail engineering of substation projects.
• Independently develop protection and control schemes for substations up to 400kV, including single‑line, three‑line, AC/DC schematics, trip matrixes, interlock logics, terminal block drawings, relay selections, and wiring diagrams.
• Design relay panels, control panels, Mosaic/Mimic panels, LCC panels, SAS/SCADA, DFR, DSM panels, detail drawings, cable schedules, and bills of materials.
• Prepare technical reports, design bases, specifications, and drawings.
• Ensure designs meet IEEE, NESC, and ANSI standards.
• Confirm engineering develops with complete information, all inter‑discipline checks conducted, and results documented in project‑specific storage.
• Resolve CAD issues arising during engineering development.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and primary electrical teams.
• Attend client and internal weekly meetings and review sessions.
• Monitor schedules and ensure timely delivery of design packages.
• Maintain records of design changes and engineering decisions.
• Report and keep records for all engineering changes; cooperate with the engineering team to agree on project‑specific impacts caused by changes.
• Ensure compliance with Linxon and client engineering guidelines, standards, and quality across the complete engineering process and adhere to organisational QMS.
• Create work plans and cost estimates in own area of responsibility.
• Contribute to an up‑to‑date design issue log.
• Implement new tools and technologies to enhance efficiency.
• Develop tender engineering drawings in a short time with quality.
• Understand and follow Linxon OHS procedures and guidelines for safety.
• Participate in CAD design and other engineering tool reviews.
• Provide input for close‑out reports and lessons learned, and review lessons learned for subsequent projects.

Experience, Education and Other Requirements

• 10+ years’ experience in CAD/MicroStation design.
• Executed project engineering in CAD/MicroStation platform.
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electrical & electronics engineering.
• Site experiences are beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD/MicroStation tools.
• Overall design experience on AIS & GIS substation design.
• Hands‑on experience preparing substation deliverables such as overall SLD, PSLD, panel general arrangement drawings, panel mechanical engineering structure, equipment mounting, and internal views.
• AutoCAD hands‑on experience is mandatory.
• Experience with E3, Ebase, Elecdes, and related add‑ons.
• Executed project engineering in AutoCAD.
• High attention to detail and quality.
