Job summary

Linxon in Chennai, India seeks a Project Engineer – Secondary Substation to lead engineering from tender to as-built, ensuring compliance with project specifications and Linxon standards. You will coordinate with global teams, external partners, and civil engineers on P&C, metering, SCADA, and comms for HV/MV substations.

The role requires 6–10 years in substation engineering, expertise in secondary substation design, and familiarity with German standards; cybersecurity awareness is a plus.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of substation engineering experience in utilities or EPC.
• Expertise in secondary substation design and engineering.
• Knowledge of German standards and German power projects is a plus.
• Awareness of cybersecurity and digital substation concepts.
• Basic understanding of primary engineering interfaces and studies for secondary engineering.
• Proficiency in MS Office; basic knowledge of AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Lead secondary engineering from tender initiation to as-built while adhering to specifications, Linxon standards, QA/QC, HSSE, and integrity.
• Coordinate with Linxon engineering team (local, remote, global), external partners, sub-suppliers, primary engineers, and civil engineers.
• Design and support protection and control (P&C), metering, SCADA, and communication systems for HV and MV substations.
• Produce technical calculations for CT/VT sizing, relay settings, auxiliary system equipment sizing, MV/LV cable sizing, and other related specifications.
• Manage interface engineering for equipment packages such as switchgear, transformers, reactors, CT/VT, and auxiliary systems.
• Assist in engineering tasks assigned to the Lead Engineer (LE).
• Create technical solutions including single-line diagrams, relay & metering diagrams, control schematics, signal lists, interlocking and interconnection diagrams, auto-synchronizer applications, and MV/LVAC & DC SLDs.
• Develop panel and room layout concepts, technical specifications, equipment selection, and connection material plans while considering cost, quality, international standards, and customer specifications.
• Prepare technical purchasing specifications and RFQ schedules for all equipment.
• Prepare bills of quantities, cost estimates, and technical solution clarifications.
• Develop cable schedules and interface engineering documents for the complete plant, covering auxiliary systems, communication, and SCADA.
• Review supplier designs, factory acceptance test plans, and attend factory and site tests.
• Provide technical support for tender scheme options and related project scope documents.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 6–10 years of substation engineering experience in utilities or EPC companies, with a proven record of delivering HV substation projects.
• Expertise in secondary substation design and engineering.
• Knowledge of German standards and legislative demands is an advantage; experience on power infrastructure projects in Germany is a plus.
• Awareness of cybersecurity requirements and digital substation concepts.
• Basic understanding of primary engineering interface/inputs and system studies/calculations related to secondary engineering.
• Strong proficiency in MS Office; basic knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred.
