Job description

Role

We are looking for two experienced MEP Engineers specialising in underground and transport infrastructure to join our growing team based in India. The successful candidates will work on international projects including metro systems, underground transit stations, and tunnels delivering high-quality MEP engineering studies, ventilation analyses, and simulation work.

The primary objective of this role is twofold: to carry out comprehensive MEP engineering studies for underground structures, and to produce CFD and SES simulations that underpin system design, safety, and regulatory compliance. This is a technically rich and varied position that places the engineer at the centre of some of the most complex MEP challenges in the infrastructure sector.

Key Responsibilities
MEP Engineering Studies
  • Lead and deliver MEP engineering studies for underground infrastructure projects, including metro stations, tunnels, shafts, and associated civil structures.
  • Develop mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system designs appropriate for underground and transport environments, including HVAC, drainage, fire protection, lighting, and power distribution.
  • Produce engineering calculations, design reports, technical specifications, drawings, and other project deliverables to a high standard of accuracy and quality.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable international codes and standards, including NFPA 130 and other relevant fire life safety, ventilation, and MEP standards.
  • Review and validate designs developed by others, providing technical commentary and quality assurance input.
  • Liaise with civil, structural, geotechnical, and systems engineers to ensure fully integrated and coordinated multidisciplinary design solutions.
  • Support construction-phase activities including review of contractor shop drawings and technical submittals, and responses to requests for information (RFIs).
Tunnel Ventilation & SES Simulation
  • Carry out detailed tunnel ventilation studies for both normal and emergency operating modes, including smoke control, piston effect, jet fan performance, and air flow management.
  • Develop, run, and interpret Subway Environment Simulation (SES) models to assess thermal environment, air movement, and ventilation system performance in metro tunnels and stations.
  • Validate SES model outputs against design requirements, operational criteria, and code compliance thresholds.
  • Identify and resolve ventilation design issues through iterative simulation and engineering judgment.
  • Prepare detailed ventilation design reports summarising methodology, assumptions, results, and recommendations.
CFD Simulation
  • Develop, set up, run, and post-process Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models for complex airflow, smoke movement, and thermal analyses within underground structures.
  • Apply CFD simulation to assess and demonstrate smoke control performance, emergency ventilation effectiveness, platform thermal comfort, and fire safety compliance.
  • Interpret CFD results critically and translate simulation outputs into actionable engineering recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the fire life safety and ventilation teams to ensure CFD studies are aligned with overall system design objectives.
  • Prepare CFD study reports and presentations suitable for client review and regulatory submission.
Standards & Compliance
  • Apply NFPA 130 (Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems) as the primary fire and life safety framework, alongside other relevant international standards applicable to the specific project jurisdiction.
  • Keep current with evolving standards, codes, and best practices in underground MEP, tunnel ventilation, and fire life safety engineering.
  • Advise the project team on applicable standards and their implications for system design, configuration, and performance.
Preferred candidate profile
Education
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A Master's degree with a focus on HVAC, fluid mechanics, fire engineering, or building services is an advantage.
Technical Experience
  • Proven experience in MEP engineering for transport infrastructure or underground structures, specifically including one or more of the following: metro stations, rail tunnels, road tunnels, underground shafts, and transit-related civil facilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SES (Subway Environment Simulation) software, including model setup, execution, and results interpretation for tunnel and station ventilation assessments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one CFD software package such as Ansys Fluent, OpenFOAM, Autodesk CFD, or equivalent for simulation of airflow, smoke, and thermal environments in complex geometries.
  • Sound working knowledge of NFPA 130 and its application to the design of ventilation, fire protection, and life safety systems in fixed guideway transit systems.
  • Good familiarity with other relevant international codes and standards applicable to tunnel and underground MEP design, such as PIARC guidelines, EN standards, IEC standards, and local regulatory requirements as applicable.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of tunnel ventilation systems, including longitudinal, transverse, and semi-transverse ventilation configurations, and emergency smoke extraction systems.
  • Experience in the design of MEP systems for metro stations, including platform ventilation, concourse cooling, smoke management, drainage, fire suppression, and low voltage electrical systems.
Years of Experience
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant post-graduate engineering experience, with a demonstrable focus on MEP systems for transport or underground infrastructure projects.
  • Candidates at both mid-level (5 to 7 years) and senior level (7 to 10+ years) are encouraged to apply; the level of appointment will reflect the candidate's experience and demonstrated capabilities.
Software Skills
  • SES: proficient required.
  • CFD software (Ansys Fluent, OpenFOAM, Autodesk CFD, or equivalent): proficient — required.
  • AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP for drawing production and BIM coordination: working knowledge preferred.
  • Microsoft Office suite for report writing and documentation: proficient.
Other Skills and Attributes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret complex simulation outputs and translate them into engineering decisions.
  • Ability to produce clear, well-structured technical reports, engineering calculations, and client-facing presentations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English; additional language skills are an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively within international, multidisciplinary project teams operating across different time zones.
  • Detail-oriented, rigorous, and committed to delivering engineering work of the highest quality.
What we offer
  • The opportunity to work on technically demanding, internationally significant infrastructure projects including metro systems and tunnel ventilation in multiple countries.
  • A collaborative and intellectually stimulating multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Direct exposure to international standards and best practices — NFPA 130, PIARC, EN standards — and to simulation-driven engineering at the frontier of tunnel MEP design.
  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience, qualifications, and market benchmarks.
  • Professional development, mentoring, and genuine career growth within an expanding international firm.
  • A culture built on trust, integrity, precision, and a genuine commitment to engineering excellence.
