About The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Enclosures and Harness, you will take full ownership of major protective subsystems and critical electrical routing networks within the robot. You will be responsible for ensuring that the main compute chassis and high‑power distribution lines survive extreme vibrations, thermal loads, and debris. You are expected to independently solve difficult packaging constraints, run complex CFD simulations, and design manufacturing‑ready harness documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Subsystem Enclosure Design:

• Design robust, sealed enclosures and control panels for sensitive electronics. Implement custom vibration mounting and isolation systems to protect IMUs, cameras, and compute boards.
• Select appropriate gasketing, sealing materials, and connectors to guarantee IP65+ protection against construction dust and water.

Complex Harnessing & Routing:

• Systematically route complex wire harnesses in 3D CAD, managing bend radii, strain relief, and dynamic flex loops for moving robot joints.
• Create highly detailed 2D harness manufacturing drawings (nailboards), specifying pin‑outs, wire gauges, shielding, and heavy‑duty connectors (e.g., Deutsch, Amphenol).

Thermal Management & V&V:

• Conduct detailed thermal analysis (CFD) on individual enclosures, optimizing heat sink geometries and fan placements.
• Own the DFMEA for your specific enclosures and harnesses. Develop and execute aggressive physical testing (water ingress tests, thermal chamber logging, shake‑table testing).

Prototyping & Mentorship:

• Champion rapid prototyping of sheet metal enclosures and 3D‑printed housings to physically validate packaging.
• Mentor junior engineers in CAD best practices, connector selection, and GD&T.

Required Qualifications And Skills

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
