Overview

Dry Dielectric Deposition Product Group (Dry DPG) at Lam India Global Hardware Technology (LIGHT) is hiring a Mechanical Program Lead Engineer for its product development.

The impact you’ll make

As a Mechanical Program Lead Engineer at Lam, you will own the design and delivery of advanced mechanical and electro‑mechanical subsystems for wafer fabrication equipment, with primary focus on structural, thermal and fluid systems of the process modules for Dielectric Deposition products. The role spans root cause analysis, feasibility studies, concept and detailed design, prototyping, engineering analysis, test planning, validation, and documentation through release. You will provide technical leadership across system architecture, packaging, and cross‑functional integration to deliver robust, manufacturable, and serviceable solutions. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology’s packaging.

What You’ll Do
  • Support the full life cycle of mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems from concept to productization including conceptualization, designing, CAD modeling, development, and test/validation, working from India and the product groups in the USA across customer escalations, CIP & sustenance projects.
  • Design and analyze components using a variety of metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics, and advanced coatings.
  • Perform OEM mechanical component selection aligned with functional, quality, cost, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with SEMI, Lam standards, and industry best practices for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Conduct detailed analysis including structural, thermal, fluid and gas flow dynamics, and manufacturability to properly validate designs.
  • Develop and conduct feasibility studies and test plans to characterize and validate design performance.
  • Prepare high‑quality reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to a diverse audience in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure solutions can be manufactured with high quality, cost‑optimized, and to requirements.
  • Provide key deliverables including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), technical specifications, risk analysis, test specifications, and design review presentations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to more junior engineers.
  • Work within established engineering processes and collaborate with cross‑functional teams and vendors to deliver safe, reliable, and cost‑effective designs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 12+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 10 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and technical presentation skills.
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD tools such as CREO, Siemens NX, ProE, SolidWorks, and others.
  • Hands‑on experimental and design background coupled with solid engineering skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus.
  • Experience in leading projects, or problem solving while managing time and multiple priorities.

Virtual Flex you’ll work 1‑2 days per week on‑site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
