Job summary

ZF Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Chennai, India, to lead the design and development of hydraulic brake system products. The role involves performing engineering calculations, driving innovation through detailed 3D CAD models, and ensuring compliance with global standards.

The ideal candidate should have 3 to 5 years of experience in 3D modeling and design with knowledge of hydraulic systems, as well as problem-solving skills to contribute to product excellence.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in 3D modeling and detailing in Creo is a must.
  • Expertise in Product Design including DFMEA, Tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
  • Knowledge in CAE methodologies and the ability to interpret simulation results.

Job description

Scope and Impact of the Position in the Organization

The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a central role in transforming customer and regulatory requirements into robust, manufacturable products and systems.

The position directly influences product performance, cost, quality, and time to market by driving design innovation, and ensuring seamless cross functional integration with manufacturing, testing, and supplier teams.

Strong design decisions made in this role have long term impact on product reliability, compliance, user experience, and overall competitiveness of the organization’s product portfolio.

The role contributes significantly to reducing development risk, optimizing product lifecycle costs, and enabling the organization to achieve strategic objectives.

Desired Specific Experience
  1. Strong understanding of hydraulic brake system architecture, product fundamentals and component functions.
  2. 3 to 5 years of Experience in 3D modelling and detailing in Creo is must.
  3. Expertise in Product Design including DFMEA, Tolerance analysis and GD&T.
  4. Ability to perform theoretical calculations and verification related to Product design.
  5. Knowledge of materials, machining, casting, forging, and other manufacturing processes.
  6. Knowledge in CAE methodologies and ability to interpret simulation results.
  7. Experience with DVP&R and problem-solving tools like DMAIC.
  8. Experience in Product life cycle management tools and change management.
  9. Exposure to advanced hydraulic braking technologies (Hyd. ABS, Hyd. ESC etc.).
  10. Knowledge of global automotive regulations and certification requirements.
Main Responsibilities
  1. Lead design and development of hydraulic brake system products (VBV, TMC, Hydraulic ABS, Hydraulic ESC etc.).
  2. Perform Engineering design calculations to ensure robust product design.
  3. Drive Innovation and create detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, tolerance stacks, and engineering specifications.
  4. Conduct DFMEA, DVP&R, design reviews, and own technical deliverables including Quality, Cost Delivery from concept to launch.
  5. Work closely with global engineering teams across regions and ensure designs meet performance, durability, safety, NVH, and regulatory requirements.
  6. Lead technical problem solving, root cause analysis, and contribute to Design to Cost (DtC) and Productivity.
  7. Engage with customer engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver technical proposals.
  8. Ensure compliance with global standards, regulations, and internal quality systems.
