Job summary

Unbox Robotics in Pune invites a Mechanical Design Engineer to design robots and peripheral structures across product ranges from POC to production, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.

You will perform CAD modeling in Solid Edge, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis, conduct structural analysis and multibody dynamics with tools like Ansys/Adams, and develop BoMs and validation reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (or Automotive, Aerospace) from a Tier 1 institute.
• 2–5 years of product development experience including design, validation, and documentation.
• Strong CAD skills with Solid Edge and GD&T proficiency.
• Hands-on with structural analysis and multibody dynamics tools (Ansys/Adams).
• Experience across machining, sheet metal, casting, and welding.

Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer at Unbox Robotics

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design robots and peripheral structures across the full product range, from POC through production and sustaining phases, in alignment with cross-functional engineering teams
• Perform aggregate calculations and select appropriate components and materials
• Create accurate CAD part and assembly models and drawings, including tolerance stack-up analysis where needed
• Conduct structural analysis and multibody dynamics simulations to validate designs against performance, safety, and reliability targets; define correct FEA inputs and interpret results to guide design decisions
• Develop test cases, set up test environments, execute tests, and prepare detailed test reports
• Based on test outcomes, identify improvement areas, propose design modifications, and plan iterations or further testing until requirements are met
• Communicate design intent to vendors using 3D CAD, 2D drawings, GD&T, and engineering specifications, applying DFM and DFA principles
• Work with vendors and suppliers to develop and scale components to specification
• Collaborate with embedded, controls, and software teams for seamless integration, and with operations teams on sourcing, QC, assembly, and delivery
• Develop and maintain BoMs, SOPs, release notes, change records, and validation reports
• Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for mechanical issues across prototypes, production, and field returns

Requirements

• Strong capability in aggregate calculations and first-principles problem-solving on complex mechanical challenges
• Expertise in CAD, preferably Solid Edge, producing accurate, high-quality models efficiently
• Deep knowledge of GD&T and proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis
• Hands-on structural analysis and multibody dynamics experience with tools such as Ansys and Adams
• Strong working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, casting, and welding across multiple materials, and their impact on design decisions
• Hands-on experience designing primary structures, mechanisms, jigs, and fixtures
• Working knowledge of solid mechanics, load cases, and failure mechanisms
• Proven experience producing detailed documentation (BoMs, SOPs, test reports, change records)
• Familiarity with Design Thinking principles for ideation, problem-solving, and product design
• Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholder teams

Good to Have

• Experience conducting FMEAs and building and executing design validation test plans
• Familiarity with relevant Indian and international standards and compliance regulations for industrial machinery and automated systems
• Certified courses in Design Thinking
• Cross-discipline knowledge (electronics, controls, or software)
• Familiarity with data analysis and visualisation
• Patents, publications, or demonstrated contributions to innovation

Eligible Candidates

• Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering (or Automotive, Aerospace) from a Tier 1 institute
• Work Experience: 2 to 5 years covering the product development cycle
