Job summary

Ekobal India in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, seeks an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to design, develop, and improve wrapping machines and other special-purpose machinery. You will create 3D models and 2D drawings, specify frames, sheet metal and welded assemblies, and work with automation and controls teams.

The role requires hands-on experience in mechanical design, automation, fabrication, DFM/DFA, and economical component selection.

Qualifications

• 3-10 years of hands-on experience in wrapping machines or End-of-Line Automation.
• Experience in design for manufacturability and cost-effective solutions.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop wrapping machines and end-of-line automation systems.
• Prepare 3D models and 2D manufacturing/assembly drawings using CAD software (Solid Edge preferred).
• Design machine frames, sheet-metal components, welded assemblies, and bent metal parts.
• Develop pneumatic systems, actuators, sensors, and automation components.
• Coordinate with electrical/controls engineers for machine integration.
• Apply DFM/DFA and cost-optimization principles.
• Select mechanical and pneumatic components based on function, availability, and cost.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, fabrication, suppliers, and service teams to resolve issues.
• Support assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure safety, reliability, ease of maintenance, and manufacturability.

We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and improvement of wrapping machines and other special-purpose machinery.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in mechanical machine design, automation, fabrication, and the development of cost-effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop wrapping machines, special-purpose machines, and End-of-Line Automation systems.
• Prepare 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and assembly drawings using CAD software, preferably Solid Edge.
• Design machine frames, sheet-metal components, bent metal parts, and welded assemblies.
• Develop and integrate pneumatic systems, actuators, sensors, and mechanical automation components.
• Understand automation control concepts and coordinate with electrical and controls engineers for machine integration.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and cost-optimization principles.
• Select suitable mechanical and pneumatic components based on functionality, performance, availability, and cost.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, suppliers, and service teams to resolve technical issues.
• Support machine assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous product improvement.
• Ensure designs meet requirements for safety, reliability, ease of maintenance, and manufacturability.

Skills:

• Strong mechanical design and machine development skills.
• Good knowledge of automation control systems and End-of-Line Automation.
• Experience in metal sheet bending, fabrication, welded assemblies, and machine structures.
• Proficiency in Solid Edge CAD software is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of pneumatic systems and component selection.
• Basic understanding of electrical diagrams, sensors, actuators, and mechatronics.
• Ability to develop economical, practical, and manufacturable design solutions.
• Good English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with cross-functional teams.

Experience:

3-10 years of relevant experience in wrapping machines, special-purpose machinery, packaging machinery, or End-of-Line Automation. Candidates with substantial hands-on experience may be considered irrespective of formal educational qualifications.
