Job summary

Ather Energy is seeking a seasoned Material Planner to lead and optimize material flow from suppliers to deployment of the company’s scooters and spare parts. You will head a dedicated planning team within Central Planning, driving strategies that align with Production, Service, and Inventory objectives.

The role requires deep expertise in material planning, SAP MM/PP, APS/MES tools, and a proven track record in managing risk and reducing stock obsolescence.

Qualifications

• Must have proven experience in material planning and inventory management.
• Experience with SAP MM/PP modules and scheduling tools.
• Strong knowledge of production planning and quality control principles.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate material flow processes from supply to use for finished goods and spare parts.
• Balance Production, Service, and Inventory Planning with Supply Operations.
• Develop models to forecast long-term component requirements against OEM capacity.
• Manage risks related to material planning to minimize supply and operations impact.
• Own KPI of Inventory Turn Ratio and reduce excess/obsolete stock.
• Lead material and inventory management integration across functions.
• Drive engineering changes in the Supply Chain function.
• Develop and benchmark material planning processes against industry best practices.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain Design and stakeholders for forecasting accuracy.

Role: Material Planner

Location: Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra

Reporting to: Lead, Material Planning

About the Team and the Role:

The Central Planning team is the strategic core of our commercial operations, responsible for forecasting and orchestrating the market delivery of our entire product ecosystem. As the Material Planner, you will spearhead this critical function, managing a dedicated team to develop and execute planning strategies.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate processes for material flow from point-of-supply to point-of-use for the finished good/ product for the service (spares) / component and sub-component level parts required for completion of the final product as well as plant maintenance.
• Driving the equilibrium between Production, Service, and Inventory Planning in consultation with the Supply Operations division of the organization.
• Develop a model to assess long term component requirements against different planning scenarios vis-a-vis capacity of the OEMs.
• Be able to understand, calculate and manage multiple risks (Domestic/ Global, Internal/ External) with respect to Material Planning to minimize the impact of material management on supply, sales & operations plan.
• Identify the constraints of material management which affect production targets and take corrective actions in relation to Own the KPI of Inventory Turn Ratio and drive it across organization.
• Minimize exposure to excess and obsolete stock and ensure minimum financial liability.
• Drive integration of Material & Inventory management.
• Lead the engineering change implementation in Supply Chain function.
• Actively contribute to the development and support of material planning processes and benchmark against best practices in the industry.
• Improvements in sync with the Supply Chain Design group.
• Be in sync with all the stakeholders across verticals as well as across horizontals, through the Head of Department, for smooth functioning of the Material Forecasting and Planning.
• Supplier capacity planning & assessment / Ramp up strategies to meet Annual volumes.
• Monitor global logistics bottlenecks and geopolitical risks to protect production lines

Experience

• B.E/ M.E in Industrial engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering or Mechanical engineering from Tier 1 institution.
• Degree & MBA from Tier 1 institution / Equivalent certification like CSCP,CPIM,CPSM,CSCM, IBF certification and similar .
• 10 - 13 years of hands-on experience on Material Planning and Inventory management
• Minimum of two references from not previous to the recent two organizations to authenticate/ validate the above sought credentials.

Must have competencies

• Proven experience as a production planner
• Excellent knowledge of production planning and quality control principles
• Experience in SAP: Order management, SAP PP, SAP MM
• Hands on experience on Scheduling tool, APS, MES
• Working knowledge of MS Office / Google office and ERP systems

Good to have competencies

• Proficiency of working on SAP MM / PP Module
• Prior experience of Planning, Inventory Management and Analytics from the manufacturing industry.
• Proficiency in various types of Bills of Materials, master data management and exposure of leading time scheduling practices/ methods
• Ability to thrive under pressure and skilled enough to adopt continuous changes.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
• Manage, coach, and develop a team of material planners and schedulers.
• Drive the adoption of advanced planning tools, AI forecasting, or automated replenishment.
