About the job Marine Superintendent (Oil/Chem)

Responsibilities:

  • Giving the Marine Manager the support that they need (if relevant).
  • Supplying the necessary support to the Masters and crews of the Company's vessels so that they can operate them in accordance with the standards set by the Company and international laws and regulations;
  • Having a thorough understanding of the company's management system;
  • Putting the company's management system into practice successfully;
  • Helping to create new procedures or modify ones that already exist;
  • Encouraging and aiding initiatives aimed at ongoing improvement;
  • Making certain that the policies, standards, processes, and company management system are applied correctly on the vessels assigned to him;
  • Ensuring that the company's vessels are operating to the satisfaction of its clients and are always prepared for inspections by other parties.
  • Attending the vessels and offering assistance when needed during these inspections;
  • Regular marine visits and making certain that, when necessary, concerns brought up during these visits are investigated and resolved as soon as possible in coordination with other departments;
  • Carrying out internal audits in compliance with relevant protocols;
  • Promoting energy efficiency, environmental awareness, and a strong culture of health, safety, and security throughout the fleet;
  • Assisting the Masters in implementing bridge procedures and navigational practices in accordance with company and regulatory policies; maintaining high standards of navigation to preserve the environment's protection and energy efficiency; and the quality, safety, and health of ships, crews, and cargoes;
  • Helping the masters to implement the strictest guidelines for the planning, monitoring, and execution of cargo operations in order to preserve the calibre, safety, and well-being of the ships and their crews as well as the preservation of the environment and energy efficiency;
  • Determining the need for training while on a marine visit and, if feasible, offering it;
  • Keeping up knowledge with charter parties and making certain Masters understand important details;
  • Ensuring that the necessary nautical publications and navigation charts are supplied to the vessels;
  • Pursuing the issues raised by the third-party inspections and keeping the relevant documentation in the CAPE database;
  • Offering support to the Vetting Team Leader so he may attend to the clients as needed;
  • Keeping an eye on Terminal Satisfaction Reports and Letters of Protest to ensure that concerns are promptly looked into, remedial and preventive actions are implemented as needed, records are kept in the CAPE database, and the Marine Manager (if relevant) is updated as needed;
  • Holding briefings in accordance with the Marine Manager's instructions (where applicable).
  • Interviewing potential candidates for Master or Chief Officer roles, as well as those seeking entry into the organisation,
  • Carrying out accident and event investigations
  • Working on projects or tasks as assigned by the Marine Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Experience at least two years of seafaring in a command role;
  • A solid working understanding of industry standards and recommendations as well as international rules and regulations;
  • Strong operational understanding of the ship types under the Marine Superintendent's jurisdiction;
  • Education, background, and proficiency in internal auditing;
  • Expertise, background, and aptitude in incident investigation;
  • Education, expertise, and proficiency in risk management
  • A bilities and experiences with marine inspections;
  • T he capacity to collaborate with others and have strong communication skills;
  • S trong proficiency in the English language.
