Position: Manager/Dy. Manager / Assistant Manager – Testing & Commissioning
Experience: 05–12 years of experience in Testing & Commissioning activities at project sites.
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech – Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
Location: Hyderabad Office with mandatory travel to project sites.
Project Requirement: Immediate deployment at NLC 600 MW Khavda Solar Project, Kutch, Gujarat.
Preferred Experience: Utility-scale Solar PV / HT / LT / Switchyard / Protection & Commissioning experience.
Key Requirement: Strong hands-on experience in electrical testing, commissioning, energization, protection systems, transformers, switchgear, and grid synchronization.
Position Summary
The Senior Testing & Commissioning Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and supervising testing and commissioning activities associated with the Solar PV Plant, Pooling Substation (PSS), Transmission Line, and Grid Interconnection Systems.
The role ensures safe energization, compliance with project specifications, statutory requirements, applicable grid codes, and successful completion of project commissioning activities.
- Prepare commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and checklists.
- Review engineering drawings, SLDs, protection schemes, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants, utility representatives, and client teams.
- Verify system readiness before testing, energization, and commissioning.
- Ensure required test equipment, manpower, tools, and resources are available.
- Monitor commissioning progress and ensure activities are completed as per project schedule.
- Verify completion of construction and installation activities before testing.
- Conduct mechanical and electrical completion inspections.
- Review and ensure closure of commissioning-related observations before energization.
- Ensure compliance with approved quality standards and project specifications.
- Verify cable schedules, tagging, labeling, and equipment identification.
- Check equipment installation, earthing, cable termination, control wiring, and related systems.
3. LT System / Switchgear Commissioning
Supervise testing and commissioning of:
- LT Panels
- ACDBs
- DCDBs
- Auxiliary Power Systems
- Station Service Systems
- Battery Chargers / UPS, wherever applicable
Conduct:
- IR Testing
- Continuity Testing
- Phase Sequence Verification
- Functional Testing
- Interlock Checks
- Control and Protection Circuit Checks
Ensure safe energization and reliable operation of power distribution systems.
4. HT System / Switchgear Commissioning
Supervise testing and commissioning of:
- HT Panels
- ICOG Panels
- LBS
- RMU Switchgear
- VCBs
- Instrument Transformers
Conduct / verify:
- IR Testing
- Polarity Check
- CT Knee Point / Excitation Testing for applicable cores
- Primary Injection Testing
- Secondary Injection Testing
- Circuit Breaker Contact Resistance Measurement
- Insulation Resistance Testing
- Trip and Closing Circuit Testing
Ensure panel and switchgear healthiness before charging and commissioning.
5. Transformer Testing & Commissioning
Coordinate testing and commissioning of:
- Inverter Duty Transformers (IDTs)
- Auxiliary Transformers
- Power Transformers
Review and verify:
- Voltage Ratio
- Winding Resistance
- Insulation Resistance
- Magnetic Balance Test
- Oil BDV Test
- DGA Analysis
Verify transformer protection, alarm, trip, cooling, and associated control systems.
6. Switchyard & Substation Commissioning
Commission and test electrical equipment including:
- Isolators
- Earth Switches
- Current Transformers (CTs)
- Potential Transformers (PTs/CVTs)
- Protection Panels
- Metering Systems
- Busbar Systems
Perform:
- Operational Testing
- Protection and Metering Checks
Ensure compliance with utility standards and applicable grid requirements.
7. Protection & Control System Testing
- Configure and test protection relays as per approved settings.
- Verify relay settings and protection logic.
- Perform:
- Secondary Injection Testing
- Logic Verification
- Interlock Testing
- End-to-End Protection Testing
- Functional Testing
- Over Current Protection
- Earth Fault Protection
- Differential Protection
- Distance Protection
- Over/Under Voltage Protection
- Over/Under Frequency Protection
- Reverse Power Protection
- Breaker Failure Protection, wherever applicable
- Verify trip logic, alarm, annunciation, and protection coordination.
- Coordinate with utility authorities for grid synchronization and energization.
- Conduct pre-synchronization inspections and checks.
- Verify protection, metering, control, communication, and system parameters before energization.
- Execute energization and synchronization activities safely and as per approved procedures.
- Monitor plant and grid parameters during initial operation.
- Coordinate with the utility, EPC, OEM, and project teams during synchronization activities.
- Ensure strict compliance with project HSE requirements.
- Implement:
- Permit-to-Work (PTW)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Electrical Isolation Procedures
- Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Ensure proper PPE and electrical safety practices during testing and energization.
- Investigate and report incidents, unsafe conditions, and near misses.
- Stop unsafe work where required.
10. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain:
- Method Statements
- Test Reports
- Inspection Records
- Test Checklists
- Energization Reports
- Punch Lists
- Daily / Weekly Commissioning Reports
- Equipment Test Records
- Ensure proper documentation for client and statutory approvals.
- Maintain complete records of testing, commissioning activities, observations, and test results.
11. Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Lead troubleshooting of electrical, protection, control, and commissioning-related issues.
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and commissioning delays.
- Coordinate corrective actions with EPC contractors and OEMs.
- Provide technical recommendations for resolving commissioning issues.
- Support timely completion of testing and commissioning activities.
- Prepare RCA for major equipment failures or repeated testing failures.
12. Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Supervise testing engineers, technicians, testing agencies, and commissioning contractors.
- Allocate manpower and commissioning resources effectively.
- Monitor daily testing and commissioning activities.
- Interface with clients, consultants, utility authorities, EPC contractors, and OEM representatives.
- Conduct technical meetings and commissioning review meetings.
- Coordinate with project, engineering, QA/QC, and HSE teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
