About the role:

The organization is seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to enhance its asset management function in India by integrating best-in class environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices across its portfolio companies. The role will work closely with the global ESG team and portfolio businesses to ensure compliance with evolving regulations, drive sustainability performance, and align operations with international climate and human rights standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy & Integration:

• Collaborate with the Central ESG team and portfolio companies to define and implement an ESG strategy tailored to the India portfolio, informed by a materiality assessment of priority topics.
• Integrate Paris Agreement, aligned transition pathways into business planning, including science- based targets (SBTi) and decarbonization roadmaps.
• Work with cross-functional teams on initiatives covering emissions management, climate change, biodiversity, and life-cycle management of resources and assets.
• Track and monitor the impact targets committed to investors under ESG / transition funds, particularly GHG emission reduction and decarbonization outcomes

2. Data & Performance Management:

• Develop and maintain systems for ESG performance data collection, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, waste, water consumption, and climate-related indicators.
• Manage inventories of ESG data to support transparency, accuracy, and reporting needs.
• Analyze key sustainability metrics and identify areas for improvement to help portfolio companies meet reduction targets and other ESG commitments.

3. Compliance & Regulatory Alignment:

• Ensure portfolio compliance with EU Taxonomy and Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), including providing ESG KPIs and data for Principal Adverse Indicators (PAIs).
• Track and assess changes in sustainability standards and regulations (e.g., TCFD, GRI, CSRD, SBTi, GHG Protocol, Environmental Acts & Rules) and advise on potential business impacts.
• Verify implementation of taxonomy-aligned measures and coordinate inputs required by regulators and investors.

4. Human Rights & Supply Chain:

• Assess and monitor human rights practices across portfolio companies, ensuring alignment with UN Guiding Principles, ILO conventions, and related frameworks. Support companies in embedding human rights due diligence in business operations and supply chains.
• Evaluate ESG performance in supply chains, set sustainability standards for suppliers, and promote responsible sourcing practices.

5. Reporting & Disclosure:

• Coordinate sustainability and ESG disclosures at both portfolio company and asset management levels.
• Consolidate ESG data across businesses for internal and external reporting in line with global standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD).
• Prepare regular updates for senior management and the global ESG team on performance, progress, and risk areas.

6. Stakeholder Engagement:

• Support outreach efforts to engage internal and external stakeholders on sustainability performance, including waste reduction, emissions management, and broader ESG initiatives.
• Communicate progress effectively at all levels, ensuring transparency and alignment on ESG goals.

• Bachelors or master's degree in an area of Sustainability, Environmental Science, Env.
