Job description

About Protsahan

Protsahan India Foundation works with 96,000+ girls annually across Delhi's slum communities, building pathways out of poverty through education, mental health support, and livelihoods training. As we scale into a pan-India field-building model in 2026, we are hiring a Manager – Financial Accounting to run the everyday execution of our finance function end-to-end and take full accountability for our accounting integrity, compliance, and reporting.

Role Summary

This role is for someone who has moved from executing finance tasks to owning finance outcomes. You are accountable for accuracy, timeliness, and audit-readiness across the function, not just for your own work. You run the function so the leadership can focus on strategy.

What You'll Own
  • Full accountability for the accounting function. The accuracy of ledgers, monthly close discipline, and the integrity of every statutory and donor filing that leaves the office.
  • Direct leadership of the finance team. Team leadership responsibility formalises after successful completion of probation. Once formalised, direct reports include the Assistant Manager and Senior Executive in the function, with room for the team to grow as the organisation scales.
  • FCRA compliance end-to-end. FC-4 filings, utilization certificates, designated bank account discipline, and adherence to non-mixing rules across FC and non-FC funds.
  • Statutory compliance. Income Tax, TDS, GST (where applicable), PF, ESIC, and Section 12A/80G renewal filings, working with the Statutory Auditor to ensure zero compliance gaps.
  • Audit management. Statutory audit, internal audit, and donor audits. You are the primary interface with auditors and keep documentation audit-ready year-round.
  • Payroll oversight on Keka. Coordinating with HR on inputs, ensuring accurate monthly payroll disbursement, statutory deductions, and reconciliation with accounting entries in Tally.
  • Financial reporting. Monthly MIS to the ED, quarterly reports to the Board, and donor-specific reports on grant utilization, restricted fund balances, and budget variances.
  • Internal controls and process design. Chart of accounts review, segregation of duties, approval workflows, and continuous strengthening of the control environment.
  • Board and governance support. Preparation of finance sections of board packs, presentation of financials to the Board Finance Committee where required, and independent escalation of any material concerns to the Board Treasurer where warranted.
Non-negotiables
  • Ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. You are accountable for the numbers being right, whether you did the entry or your team did. You do not hide behind your team when errors surface.
  • FCRA fluency. You can walk through FC-4 preparation, UC mechanics, the designated bank account architecture, and non-mixing rules from memory. You have personally owned FCRA compliance for at least 3-4 years.
  • Audit calm. Auditor visits are routine, not fire drills. You keep documentation audit-ready year-round, not only in the week-of the audit.
  • Judgment plus process. You follow documented processes and know when to elevate a deviation. You do not shortcut compliance, and you do not elevate every decision back up the chain.
  • Absolute discretion. On payroll data, board conversations, related‑party disclosures, and compensation matters.
Must-haves
  • CA, CMA, MBA (Finance), or M.Com with a strong accounting foundation.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of accounting and finance experience, with at least 4-5 years directly handling FCRA compliance and donor grant accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience running monthly closures, managing statutory audits, and preparing board-level financial reports.
  • Expertise in knowledge of Tally (essential) and Keka payroll (or willingness to learn quickly), plus advanced Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Experience leading and developing a small finance team (2-5 people).
  • Comfort presenting to senior stakeholders including the ED, Board, statutory auditors, and donor representatives.
Advantage if You Bring
  • Prior experience in an NGO of comparable scale (50+ staff, multiple field locations, multiple funding streams).
  • Familiarity with Trust structures, and FCRA changes over the last five years.
  • Exposure to donor audits from institutional funders (US, UK, EU, Indian CSR).
  • Experience implementing or upgrading a finance system (chart of accounts overhaul, Tally migration, MIS build).
Governance and Independence

This role carries specific independence obligations that protect you, protect the organisation, and give the Board comfort:

  • You will interface directly with the Statutory Auditor on all audit findings.
  • You will have a dotted line to the Board for any related‑party transactions, compensation disclosures for founding members, and any material concerns you cannot resolve with the ED.
  • You are expected to elevate concerns independently where warranted. This is a feature of the role, not a failure of it.
Growth Path

Manager, Grade C1 as per Protsahan’s band structure. Promotion to Senior Manager or Head of Finance is available based on sustained ownership of the function, expansion of scope, and Board endorsement. There is no minimum tenure lock. The path opens when the readiness is there.

Employee Value Proposition
  • EPF (as applicable)
  • ESIC (if applicable)
  • Gratuity (as per applicable law)
  • Group Accident Insurance
  • Group Medical Insurance
  • 24 annual leaves apart from gazetted and national holidays
