Job summary

Trent Limited, Mumbai, seeks a Compliance Manager Labour Laws to oversee pan-India statutory compliance across stores, warehouses, offices and project sites. You will ensure wage code implementation, licences, labour inspections and regulator liaison.

You will lead audits, manage unions, and maintain MIS dashboards for licences, labour compliance and risk; act as SPOC for inspections and court matters with external counsel.

Qualifications

• Graduate in any discipline; LLB / Labour Laws.
• 10+ years' experience in multi-state retail, logistics, facility management or similar workforce-heavy environment.
• Strong hands-on exposure to labour law implementation, wage code transition, licences, inspections and compliance audits.
• Deep knowledge of Indian labour laws, wage code framework and retail statutory and property compliances.
• Ability to interpret new statutes and drive organisation-wide implementation.
• Strong inspection handling, regulatory liaison and litigation coordination.
• Leadership, negotiation, documentation and MIS reporting capability.
• High integrity with a non-tolerance stance toward statutory non-compliance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure statutory compliance for employees and contract workforce incl. PF, ESI, wages, bonus, gratuity, hours and licences.
• Manage union relations, Mathadi/manual worker and head-loader compliance.
• Ensure validity of Shops & Establishment, municipal licences, tax, fire approvals and other local licences.
• Oversee compliance for owned/leased properties incl. property tax, electricity, fire/life-safety and civic requirements.
• Act as SPOC for inspections, notices, proceedings and labour court matters; coordinate with regulators and counsel.
• Conduct internal/external compliance audits, identify risks and enforce corrective actions.
• Prepare pan-India MIS dashboards on licences, labour compliance and risks for leadership.
• Collaborate with Mumbai-based compliance team and external consultants.

Job description

1. Compliance Manager Labour Laws, Store & Operational Statutory Compliance (Pan-India Retail)

2. Location: Vios Tower, (Lodha Excelus), 28th Floor, Commercial Building, Sewri Chembur Road, New Cuff Parade, Wadala, Mumbai 400 037.

3. Department: Legal

4. Coverage: Pan-India retail stores, warehouses, corporate offices, guest houses, design studios and project/fit-out sites.

5. Role Purpose

To ensure end-to-end compliance with labour laws, statutory licences, property and operational regulatory requirements across all business locations in India, maintaining a zero-tolerance approach toward non-compliance and preventing penalties, prosecutions, labour disruption, utility disconnection or business interruption.

6. Key Responsibilities

a. Ensure statutory compliance for employees and contract workforce covering PF, ESI, wages, bonus, gratuity, working hours, statutory registers and principal employer obligations, including implementation of the Wage Code and new labour statutes.

b. Manage union relations, Mathadi/manual worker and head-loader compliances, preventing operational disruption.

c. Ensure validity of Shops & Establishment, municipal trade/health licences, professional tax, fire approvals, signage permissions, weighing scale verification, eating-house permissions and other local licences.

d. Oversee compliance for owned/leased properties, including property tax, electricity load and billing, fire and life-safety systems, building safety, lift/electrical certifications and civic requirements.

e. Act as SPOC for statutory inspections, notices, authority proceedings and labour court matters, coordinating with consultants, advocates and regulators and maintaining a central litigation tracker.

f. Conduct and handle internal / external compliance audits, risk identification, loophole closure, corrective actions and statutory training, enforcing strict governance against non-compliance.

g. Prepare pan-India MIS dashboards on licences, labour compliance, utilities, inspections, litigation and risks for leadership review.

h. Work closely with Mumbai-based compliance team and manage external consultants and legal counsel.

7. Experience & Qualifications
