Job summary

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) seeks an experienced Maintenance Materials Engineer to ensure readiness by accurate spare-parts identification, reliable material master data and coordinated material availability for maintenance activities.

You will validate BOMs, review technical docs, and drive data governance with cross-functional teams across Chennai and Vadodara to improve material-data quality.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech or equivalent in mechanical/electrical/industrial fields.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in maintenance materials or asset master-data support.
• Hands-on experience with material masters and BOMs.
• Working knowledge of SAP PM/MM and their integration.
• Experience interpreting manufacturer manuals, drawings and SPIRs.

Responsibilities

• Identify material and spare-parts requirements for maintenance work packages.
• Review manuals, drawings, SPIRs and vendor docs to confirm specs, references and quantities.
• Resolve missing or unclear spare-parts information with Engineering, Maintenance and vendors.
• Validate material masters, equipment BOMs and functional-location BOMs for accuracy and completeness.
• Identify missing, duplicate, obsolete or inconsistent material/BOM records.
• Support material-master creation and updates per naming conventions and approvals.
• Support spare-parts standardization and interchangeability reviews with technical approval.
• Coordinate material availability and reservations against maintenance schedules.
• Identify shortages and work with teams to resolve constraints.
• Assist with purchase requisitions and PO readiness with correct specs and docs.
• Coordinate with Planning, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain and vendors to track requirements.
• Maintain traceable records of material-master and BOM changes and approvals.
• Follow data-governance and change-control procedures.
• Support continuous improvement for material-data quality.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Materials Engineer to support maintenance readiness through accurate spare-parts identification, reliable material master data and effective material coordination.

The role involves validating equipment and functional-location Bills of Materials (BOMs), reviewing technical documentation, resolving material-data issues and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure materials are available for planned maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

Spare-Parts Identification and Technical Review

• Identify material and spare-parts requirements for maintenance work packages.
• Review manufacturer manuals, drawings, Spare Parts Interchangeability Records (SPIRs) and vendor documentation to confirm part specifications, manufacturer references and required quantities.
• Resolve missing or unclear spare-parts information in coordination with Engineering, Maintenance and vendors.

Material Master and BOM Management

• Validate material masters, equipment BOMs and functional-location BOMs for accuracy, completeness and consistency.
• Identify missing, duplicate, obsolete or inconsistent material and BOM records.
• Support material-master creation and updates in accordance with established naming conventions, classification standards and approval processes.
• Support spare-parts standardization and interchangeability reviews, ensuring proposed substitutions receive appropriate technical approval.

Material Availability and Procurement Coordination

• Coordinate material availability and reservations against maintenance requirements and schedules.
• Identify material shortages and work with relevant teams to resolve constraints.
• Support purchase requisitions and purchase-order readiness by ensuring technical specifications, quantities and supporting documentation are complete.
• Coordinate with Planning, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain and vendors to track outstanding material requirements.

Data Quality and Change Control

• Maintain traceable records of material-master and BOM changes, including supporting documentation and approvals.
• Follow established data-governance and change-control procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen material-data quality and maintenance readiness.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• BE/B.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Production Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in maintenance materials, spare-parts data management or asset master-data support.
• Hands-on experience with material masters and equipment or functional-location BOMs.
• Working knowledge of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM), Materials Management (MM) and their integration.
• Experience interpreting manufacturer manuals, technical drawings, vendor documents and spare-parts records.
• Understanding of material availability checks, reservations, purchase requisitions and procurement coordination.
