Job summary

ZEISS India, headquartered in Bengaluru, seeks an experienced Maintenance Engineer to oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of production and utility systems. You will diagnose faults, optimize MTTR/MTBF KPIs, and coordinate contractor support while ensuring safety compliance and documentation updates.

The role requires 8–10 years in maintenance, proficiency in Excel/Word/Presentation, and reading electrical diagrams and PLCs. BE or Diploma in Electrical Engineering is essential.

• Experience – 8 to 10 years of hands on experience in Maintenance dept especially in Operation and Maintenance, Preventive & Breakdown maintenance of Utility and production maintenance and spare parts management.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults, lead repair efforts to minimize downtime and conduct root cause analysis.
• Provide technical expertise, manage contractor support, ensure safety compliance and update maintenance documentation.
• Read electrical circuit diagrams, troubleshoot PLC programs and create ladder diagrams.
• Read drawings and engineering specifications and ensure installations meet safety standards.
• Monitor MTTR, MTBF and PM adherence targets as KPI’s.

Main Accountabilities

Areas of Expertise: Through knowledge of Utilities Operation and Maintenance, Preventive & Breakdown maintenance of the Production and Utility Equipment’s, DG Synchronizing Panels, Transformers, Electrical installations, HVAC systems, STP, ETP and WTP etc.

Diagnosing faults, leading repair efforts to minimize downtime, and conducting root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

Provide technical expertise, manage contractor support, ensure safety compliance, and update maintenance documentation to restore operational efficiency rapidly.

Understand how to keep mechanical and electrical systems running efficiently. Be able to understand the circuit diagrams, trace the problem, service, troubleshoot, and repair machines. Know how to optimize maintenance procedures to improve machine performance.

Be proficient in using maintenance software and other computer systems.

Knowledge of preparing blueprints and technical diagrams and schematics. Ensure that installations and applications are in line with customer needs and safety standards.

Develop maintenance policies and procedures and respond to maintenance requests. Monitor maintenance and inspection plans.

Able to read the drawings & engineering specifications and tolerances.

Prepare and give presentations using MS presentations and have a good knowledge of Excel and MS Word.

Thorough knowledge of MTTR, MTBF, PM adherence targets as KPI’s and able to meet the KPI’s defined for the department.

Able to read, write electrical circuit diagrams, SLD’s, work on PLC programming, creating ladder diagrams in PLC’s, troubleshooting the PLC program etc.

Must have knowledge on building management systems, business continuity plan, emergency preparedness, and so on.

Knowledge on 5S, Gemba, continual improvement projects, LEAN concepts, root cause analysis using quality tools.

Knowledge of MIS reporting for critical parameters like energy, water, and waste to meet department objectives for the KPI’s.

Requirements and skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Presentation. (Mandatory)
• Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Know the regulatory compliance requirements and safety standards.
• Excellent organizational, time management and people skills.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

• Having exposure with ISO & OHSAS standards and faced the internal and external audits.
• Having experience of documentation work.
• Exposure in handling government agencies, local authorities / agencies.
• Six sigma black belt or green belt certification is an added advantage.
• Thorough knowledge of QMS systems like ISO 14000, ISO 18001, EMS.
