Job summary

EPAM Systems, Inc. is seeking an experienced Mainframe Architect to lead architecture, modernization, design, and delivery of enterprise-scale mainframe solutions.

You will drive end-to-end design, governance, and performance optimization across hybrid environments and mentor senior developers. The role requires deep expertise in z/OS, COBOL, JCL, CICS, Db2, and API integration, with a focus on modernization, cloud readiness, and DevSecOps practices.

Qualifications

• 13+ years of experience in Mainframe architecture and delivery.
• Expertise in IBM z/OS, COBOL, and JCL.
• Proficiency in CICS, Db2, and VSAM.
• Background in IMS DB/IMS DC, TSO/ISPF, and REXX.
• Skills in IBM MQ, Web Services (SOAP/REST), and API Integration.
• Knowledge of Connect:Direct, Endevor, and Changeman.
• Competency in Git Integration, CI/CD for Mainframe, and SonarQube.
• Familiarity with Jenkins and Automated Testing Tools.
• Understanding of SMF, OMEGAMON, and MainView.
• Ability to performance/tune and perform root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end architecture for Mainframe applications and platforms.
• Design scalable, resilient, secure, and high-performing mainframe solutions.
• Create architecture blueprints, design documents, and technical roadmaps.
• Conduct architecture reviews and provide technical governance.
• Drive modernization initiatives including Mainframe transformation and API enablement.
• Assess application portfolios and define migration or coexistence strategies.
• Provide technical leadership to teams and mentor senior staff.
• Define coding, deployment, and operational standards; lead workshops.
