Job summary

Atos is seeking a Mainframe Application Architect to join our teams in Chennai, Bangalore, or Mumbai. The role focuses on designing, developing, and modernizing mainframe applications with solid COBOL, JCL, VSAM, and CICS skills.

You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, align SDLC and DevOps practices, and help bridge mainframe with distributed systems. A strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of mainframe application development experience.
• Proficient in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, DB2, IMS.
• Experience with SDLC methodologies and DevOps (CI/CD).
• Familiar with testing methodologies for mainframe applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to troubleshoot and debug complex issues.

Mandatory Skills

• Strong experience (15+ years) in mainframe application development with proficiency in mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, DB2, IMS, ReXX, EZT etc
• Exposure to hybrid architecture with both mainframe and distributed applications
• Exposure to any performance tuning activities in Mainframe like API integration, monolith code componentization, SMF log analysis, Database fine-tuning etc
• Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies and best practices and working knowledge in DevOps (CI/CD)
• Experience with version control systems and software configuration management tools
• Familiarity with testing methodologies and tools for mainframe applications
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex technical issues
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality code and solutions
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment

Nice to have

• Knowledge of any modern programming languages and frameworks such as Java, .NET or Python and their integration with mainframe systems
• Understanding the principles of AI and its application in Mainframe Modernization
• Any exposure to Mainframe Modernization principles and toolsets like Rocket, AWS Transform etc
