Job summary

Persistent Systems is seeking an experienced Mainframe Architect to lead the architecture, modernization, and transformation of enterprise mainframe applications. You will drive roadmaps, guide IMS/COBOL/CICS/DB2 tech, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure platforms.

You will mentor teams, define best practices, and oversee integration with cloud and distributed systems while ensuring governance and performance targets are met.

Qualifications

• B.E., B.Tech., MCA or equivalent qualification in CS/IT/Engineering
• 10–14 years of experience in Mainframe Architecture, Delivery and Enterprise Solutions
• Extensive experience with IMS, COBOL, CICS, DB2, MQ and z/OS technologies
• Strong enterprise application architecture and large-scale solution design capabilities
• Experience modernizing legacy systems and integrating mainframe with cloud environments
• Expertise in integration architecture across mainframe, cloud and distributed systems
• Knowledge of API enablement, microservices integration, and hybrid architectures
• Proven leadership in guiding architecture decisions and cross-team collaboration
• Experience with Agile/Waterfall/hybrid delivery environments

Responsibilities

• Define and drive architecture, design, and modernization strategy for enterprise mainframe apps and platforms.
• Lead design and implementation of scalable, resilient mainframe solutions aligned to business goals.
• Develop enterprise architecture roadmaps and long-term technology transformation plans.
• Provide technical leadership for IMS, COBOL, CICS, DB2, MQ and z/OS-based apps.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business objectives into robust architectures.
• Evaluate legacy systems and recommend modernization, migration and optimization approaches.
• Design integration between mainframe and distributed/cloud platforms.

• Conduct architecture reviews, solution assessments and governance activities.

• Review designs and technical specifications for alignment with standards.
• Work with infra teams to ensure platform stability, disaster recovery readiness.
• Support capacity planning, performance tuning and system optimization.

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Architect to lead the architecture, design, modernization, and transformation of enterprise-scale mainframe applications and platforms. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in IMS, COBOL, CICS, DB2, and z/OS technologies, along with strong architectural leadership capabilities. Expertise You'll Bring:
