Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Pune seeks a tool room operator to run CNC and conventional grinding machines, set tools and perform inspections in a high-safety environment.

You will support TPM-driven maintenance, document maintenance actions and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure tool availability and quality.

Rotational shifts are required; a basic understanding of Excel/Office is helpful and prior experience with tool pre-setters is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with regulatory awareness.
  • Experience operating CNC tool grinding machines preferred.
  • Familiarity with tool regrinding, measuring devices and quality checks.
  • Ability to use Zoller pre-setter and set milling cutters.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary:

Operate tool regrinding machines and tool pre-setting equipment safely in the Tool Crib area as per quality and production requirements. Manage shift activities and follow all safety rules while working with electrical and other energy sources. Learn safe working methods for industrial equipment and guide or coach others whenever required.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Applies high standards of workmanship and craftsmanship. Support equipment uptime and downtime failure analysis. Performs work in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and specifications using various tools, measuring and testing instruments . Follows all process documentation and quality procedures. Raises issues to minimize cost and quality exposures. Performs quality inspections. Delivery Ability to run all tool room equipment including Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines, lathes, grinders, milling machines, drill presses and shapers. Ability to use measuring devices, layout work and set up of tool room machines to build or fabricate details and assemble as needed. Repairs and maintains manufacturing equipment . Performs and documents preventive, emergency, corrective and predictive maintenance activities. Maintains clean and orderly work area, including routine housekeeping and machine cleaning tasks. Identify and reduce manufacturing constraints Schedule maintenance activities around production requirements Solve problems and improve processes Participate in continuous improvement activities Teamwork Communicates effectively with the assigned team and with all support teams. Completes training and personal development in line with business requirements. Participates actively with local Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) teams in ways to improve quality, safety, process, material flow, and employee development.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Requires some work experience or intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

  • Experience in operating CNC Tool & Cutter Grinding Machines and conventional tool grinding machines.
  • Knowledge of tool regrinding, basic troubleshooting, and improving tool life.
  • Experience in using Zoller Tool Pre-setter and setting milling cutters.
  • Experience with Oracle transactions for tool issue, return, stock control, and material tracking.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems related to cutting tools and machining operations.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, tool holders, inserts, gauges, and tool crib activities.
  • Basic understanding of CNC machining processes such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding.
  • Knowledge of inventory control, stock accuracy, and material management.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication and coordination skills with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Purchase teams.
  • Understanding of 5S, safety rules, and workplace housekeeping standards.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and willing to learn new tools and processes.
  • Work in rotational shifts.
