Job summary

Prodapt in Chennai invites an experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join the infrastructure and network engineering team. You will deploy, implement, and support secure Linux-based platforms across data centers and enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of hands-on Linux administration, with strong skills in NixOS, RHEL, GUIX, nftables, and modern security practices. Familiarity with Kubernetes, Cilium, Suricata, and Zeek is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on Linux administration and engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and support enterprise Linux servers across environments.
  • Implement Linux OSs including NixOS, RHEL, GUIX and other immutable OS.
  • Deploy and configure Linux-based networking and security services.
  • Implement Linux firewall solutions using nftables and stateful firewalls.
  • Configure Linux networking (L2, routing, VLANs, security zoning).
  • Support deployment of enterprise firewall platforms (Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Check Point).
  • Troubleshoot Linux security controls, host hardening, and segmentation.
  • Configure and support Cilium for Kubernetes networking and security.
  • Deploy and maintain Suricata IDS/IPS and Zeek monitoring.
  • Perform upgrades, patching, migrations, and implementation activities.
  • Collaborate with networks, security, cloud, and infra teams; maintain docs.
  • Participate in change management and maintenance windows.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced

We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join our infrastructure and network engineering team, responsible for deploying, implementing, and supporting secure Linux-based platforms within enterprise and data centre environments. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience with Linux operating systems and a strong background in network security, firewall technologies, and infrastructure deployment.

This role requires expertise in NixOS, with experience in RHEL, GUIX, or other immutable operating systems. The successful candidate will also have strong knowledge of Linux networking, security zoning, stateful firewalls, and packet filtering technologies such as nftables. Experience with Cilium and Zeek is highly desirable, while exposure to Suricata will be considered an advantage.

Responsibilities
  • Deploy, configure, and support enterprise Linux servers across production and non-production environments.
  • Implement and manage Linux operating systems, including NixOS, RHEL, GUIX, and other immutable OS platforms.
  • Deploy and configure Linux-based networking and security services.
  • Implement Linux firewall solutions using nftables and stateful firewall technologies.
  • Configure Linux networking, including Layer 2 networking, routing, VLANs, and security zoning.
  • Support deployment and integration of enterprise firewall platforms, including Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Check Point.
  • Implement and troubleshoot Linux security controls, host hardening, and network segmentation.
  • Configure and support Cilium for Kubernetes networking and security (where applicable).
  • Deploy and maintain Suricata IDS/IPS and Zeek network monitoring solutions (preferred).
  • Perform Linux system upgrades, patching, migrations, and implementation activities.
  • Troubleshoot operating system, networking, firewall, and security-related issues.
  • Collaborate with Network, Security, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams during project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation guides, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in change management activities and support implementation during maintenance windows.
  • Ensure Linux environments comply with customer security policies and operational standards.
Requirements
Mandatory Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on Linux administration and engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with:
    • NixOS
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • GUIX or other immutable Linux operating systems
  • Strong deployment and implementation experience within enterprise Linux environments.
  • Experience implementing Linux networking and security solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Stateful Firewalls
  • Hands-on experience with nftables.
  • Experience integrating Linux environments with enterprise firewall platforms, including:

  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience working in enterprise and data centre environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Cilium for cloud-native networking and security.
  • Experience deploying or administering Suricata IDS/IPS.
  • Experience using Zeek for network traffic analysis and security monitoring.
  • Knowledge of container platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with Linux automation and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, SaltStack).
  • Scripting experience using:
    • Bash
    • Python
    • Shell Scripting
  • Knowledge of SELinux and Linux security hardening.
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
