Job summary

Job Purpose

The Lifting Specialist is responsible for planning, supervising, and ensuring the safe execution of all lifting and rigging activities within the modular manufacturing yard. The role ensures that all lifts are conducted in compliance with company procedures, project requirements, statutory regulations, and industry best practices, with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and equipment integrity.

Job Role
Lifting Planning and Execution
  • Prepare, review, and approve lifting plans for routine, critical, and heavy lifts.
  • Ensure lifting operations are properly risk assessed and method statements are in place before execution.
  • Coordinate with operations, production, transport, rigging, and HSE teams for lifting activities.
  • Supervise crane operations, rigging activities, and load handling to ensure safe and accurate execution.
  • Verify load weights, center of gravity, lifting points, crane capacity, ground conditions, and lifting accessories before lifts.
Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with company lifting procedures, HSE standards, and applicable statutory/regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce the use of certified lifting equipment, accessories, and rigging tools.
  • Conduct pre-lift briefings / toolbox talks with all involved personnel.
  • Stop unsafe lifting operations and take corrective actions immediately.
  • Participate in incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and corrective action implementation.
Equipment and Rigging Management
  • Inspect lifting gear, rigging equipment, and crane accessories for certification and serviceability.
  • Maintain records of lifting equipment inspections, certifications, and usage logs.
  • Coordinate maintenance or replacement of defective lifting tools and accessories.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of slings, shackles, spreader beams, hooks, and other lifting equipment.
Coordination and Interface Management
  • Work closely with fabrication, assembly, painting, dispatch, and yard logistics teams to support modular movement and loading operations.
  • Coordinate with crane operators, riggers, signalmen, and banksmen during lifting operations.
  • Liaise with contractors and vendors to ensure lifting standards are followed.
  • Communicate lifting schedules and restrictions to relevant stakeholders.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Prepare lifting permits, lift plans, checklists, and documentation required for each lift.
  • Maintain accurate records of lift execution, equipment inspections, certifications, and incident reports.
  • Report lifting progress, issues, deviations, and safety concerns to management.
  • Support audits and inspections related to lifting and rigging activities.
HSE Responsibilities
  • Promote a strong safety culture in all lifting activities.
  • Ensure zero tolerance for unsafe lifting practices.
  • Enforce PPE usage and exclusion zones during lifting operations.
  • Verify that all lifting equipment is certified and color‑coded as per site requirements.
  • Support safety inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • Relevant certification in lifting, rigging, or crane operations is an advantage.
  • Professional training in lifting supervision, critical lift planning, or load handling preferred
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in lifting operations, rigging, heavy equipment handling, or modular fabrication yards.
  • Experience in heavy lifts, critical lifts, module handling, and transportation operations.
  • Prior experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, construction, or modular fabrication industry preferred.
Skills And Competencies
  • - Strong knowledge of lifting plans, rigging methods, and crane operations.
  • - Understanding of load calculations, center of gravity, sling angles, and lifting gear selection.
  • - Familiarity with lifting standards, safety regulations, and permit‑to‐work systems.
  • - Good leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
  • - Ability to identify hazards and implement safe controls.
  • - Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability.
  • - Proficient in report writing and documentation.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Zero major lifting incidents / accidents.
  • Percentage of lifts executed as per approved plan.
  • Compliance rate of lifting equipment inspection and certification.
  • Number of unsafe lifting practices identified and corrected.
  • Timely completion of lifting operations without rework or damage.
  • Accuracy and completeness of lifting documentation.
