The position works across Network Services, business partners, vendors, IT personnel, customer-support functions, and end users. Responsibilities include complex WAN/LAN design and support, advanced troubleshooting, capacity planning, technology integration, standards development, and technical leadership for projects and operational efforts. Depending on team assignment, the role may also provide top-tier break/fix support, critical escalation response, and Major Incident Response Team (MIRT) engagement.
Successful candidates demonstrate deep technical expertise, strong communication and problem-solving skills, customer focus, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to lead technical work while collaborating effectively with peers and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Enterprise Network Architecture & Advanced Support
- Design, deploy, and maintain complex nationwide enterprise WAN/LAN solutions using best-practice switching/routing technologies and topologies.
- Provide engineering consultation for Level III network troubleshooting/problem resolution, protocol analysis, and network trace/capture/analysis.
- Analyze end-to-end data flows and traffic patterns and perform network impact analysis, modeling, and capacity planning.
- Configure and support advanced routing technologies and protocols, including OSPF/BGP, IP advertising/filtering/redistribution, Quality of Service, and IP multicast.
- Support Layer 1 and Layer 2 technologies, IP addressing and variable-length subnet masking, enterprise WAN services, and related routing/switching infrastructure.
- Provision, configure, and troubleshoot WAN technologies such as MPLS, VPLS, Metro-E, and other supported private-line or routed services.
- Design, implement, and support network security and remote-access technologies, including firewalls, VPN technologies, and related enterprise security platforms.
- Design, configure, and support enterprise load-balancing solutions such as F5 BigIP and comparable platforms.
- Perform software/hardware device upgrades and LAN equipment configuration/provisioning.
- Use network monitoring, logging, packet-analysis, flow-analysis, and terminal tools to maintain operational visibility and troubleshoot complex network issues.
- Service Delivery & Incident Response
- Provide advanced enterprise network support and respond to complex operational issues, customer escalations, and service-impacting events.
- For teams with incident responsibilities, provide top-tier break/fix support, engage in critical escalations and MIRT events, and maintain timely, accurate ticket status.
- Support service-level commitments through disciplined troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and follow-through.
- Standards, Technology Integration & Technical Leadership
