Job summary

Qualifications

About the Role

IndiaLaw LLP is seeking a motivated and experienced Associate with 3-4 years of post-qualification experience to join its Arbitration & Dispute Resolution practice in the Mumbai office. The successful candidate will work closely with the Partners and senior lawyers on complex domestic and international arbitration matters, commercial disputes, and arbitration-related litigation across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle domestic and international arbitration matters under institutional and ad hoc arbitration frameworks.
• Draft and review arbitration notices, statements of claim, statements of defence, counterclaims, witness statements, written submissions, procedural applications, and legal opinions.
• Assist in and independently handle proceedings under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, including matters relating to interim relief, appointment of arbitrators, challenges to arbitral awards, and enforcement of awards.
• Represent and assist clients before arbitral tribunals, High Courts, Commercial Courts, and other judicial forums in arbitration-related proceedings.
• Conduct detailed legal research, prepare case strategies, and support Partners during hearings and client conferences.
• Review and draft arbitration clauses and advise clients on dispute resolution mechanisms in commercial contracts.
• Coordinate with clients, arbitrators, external counsel, and arbitration institutions to ensure effective case management.
• Manage case timelines, procedural compliance, documentation, and hearing preparation.
• LL.B. degree from a recognised university.
• Enrolment with the Bar Council of India.
• 3-4 years of post-qualification experience in arbitration and commercial dispute resolution, preferably with a reputed law firm.
• Experience in arbitration-related court proceedings and commercial litigation will be an added advantage.

Desired Skills

• Excellent drafting, advocacy support, and legal research skills.
• Strong knowledge of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, the Code of Civil Procedure, and commercial laws.
• Exposure to institutional arbitration (such as MCIA, SIAC, ICC, or DIAC) will be preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, client management, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a team.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
