Walton County Emergency Management Agency is seeking a Legal Assistant - Public Defender to provide administrative and secretarial support for the Public Defender’s Office. You will research and resolve client issues, prepare documents, and coordinate rehab and accountability court paperwork while assisting attorneys and investigators.
You will create and use databases and spreadsheets, communicate with judges, law enforcement, clients, and staff, and help generate reports.
This position is responsible for providing administrative and secretarial support for the Public Defender’s Office. Researches and resolves detailed client issues/questions and prepares documents. Handles and coordinates all rehab and accountability court paperwork. Provides support to attorneys and investigator staff. Conducts research to compile information needed to generate reports, complete projects, and accurately respond to questions and concerns. Analyzes problems, questions, and issues to develop and report recommendations for resolving them. Interviews, victims, witnesses, or clients. Summarizes case information; attends court with assigned attorneys to provide support, and other case activities. Files pleadings and legal documents with courts and generates prints, copies, and distributes legal documents and reports. Communicates with supervisors, attorneys, judges, law enforcement, other employees, clients, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Creates and utilizes databases, spreadsheets, and/or other investigative software. Performs related duties.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
