Job summary

Sumo India is seeking a Lead Technical Designer to bridge Level Design and Engineering across multi-platform titles, collaborating with our UK teams. You will empower designers to prototype, iterate and implement world and gameplay content efficiently, ensuring systems, tools and workflows are scalable and technically sound.

You will lead other Technical Designers, drive technical design standards, and influence engine and feature roadmap decisions to deliver cohesive experiences.

Qualifications

• Understanding of Technical Design theory and best practices for robust systems and gameplay objects.
• Experience in scripting or programming languages.
• Experience with industry-standard game engines and design tools.
• Fluency in English with excellent communication skills.

• Implement gameplay content, level systems and LD tools using visual or text-based scripting.
• Support Level Designers with technical problem-solving and workflow optimisation.
• Translate high-level design intent into technically feasible solutions.

Sumo India are looking for Lead Technical Designer to join our growing team of designers focused on building robust and cohesive levels and gameplay experiences for a variety of multi-platform titles, in collaboration with our UK based teams. As a Lead Technical Designer in the World discipline, you will bridge the gap between Level Design and Engineering. Through application of a strong knowledge of both design theory and technical know-how, you’ll empower other designers to prototype, iterate and implement world and gameplay content efficiently, ensuring that gameplay systems, content, tools and workflows are efficient, scalable, and technically sound.

Job Requirements

Essential

• Understanding of Technical Design theory, standards and best practices in the creation of robust systems and gameplay objects, level streaming and scripting ,appropriate to seniority.
• Demonstrable experience in some form of scripting (visual/text based), or programming languages.
• Experience working with industry‑standard game engines and design tools.
• Fluency in English with excellent communication and feedback skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable

• Professional experience in Game Development, in the field of Technical Design.
• Experience collaborating with outsourced or external development teams in multiple time-zones.
• A background spanning varying genres such as open world, action-adventure, platforming and/or racing titles.
• Familiarity with performance, memory, and technical constraints in world building.
• Knowledge or experience of working with object-oriented programming / languages such as C++.
