National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) BHIM team in Hyderabad seeks a Lead SRE to own site reliability and observability across payment infrastructure. This hands-on leadership role focuses on automation, on-call readiness, and scalable CI/CD practices.

You will mentor engineers, design resilient systems on Kubernetes, implement OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and IaC, and drive incident postmortems to improve reliability in a high-availability fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 6.5–10 years of SRE or platform engineering experience.
• Proven track record in building reliable, scalable production systems.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability.

About the role We are seeking a Lead SRE to own and evolve our site reliability engineering practices,

infrastructure automation, and observability frameworks. This role combines hands‑on systems engineering with technical leadership to enable reliable, scalable delivery across our payment infrastructure. You will lead SRE initiatives, mentor team members, and ensure robust CI/CD practices and comprehensive monitoring for production systems, with on‑call support responsibilities during critical activities.

BHIM / LEAD SRE

• Lead SRE initiatives and define reliability standards for production payment infrastructure
• Design and maintain Kubernetes clusters and container orchestration across production environments
• Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Git, and GitHub for automated deployments
• Implement and manage OpenTelemetry collector setups for distributed tracing and metrics

• Develop shell scripts and Python automation for infrastructure provisioning and maintenance
• Ensure Linux system hardening and performance tuning across all infrastructure components

• Strong proficiency in Linux administration and system management
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes deployment, scaling, and management
• Proficiency in Shell scripting or Python for automation and tooling
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Git, or GitHub Actions
• Practical knowledge of OpenTelemetry collector setup and configuration
• Hands‑on experience with Grafana or equivalent observability platforms
• Understanding of containerisation and container orchestration patterns
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Ansible, or similar)
• Proven SRE leadership experience with incident management and post‑mortem culture
• Experience leading on‑call rotations and managing production incidents
• Experience in payments, fintech, or high‑availability transaction systems
• Knowledge of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
